  1. I hope you got a refund. Unless, of course, they asked you to pitch the 9th. I mean, if they offered you that and you turned it down, well, I just don’t even know what to say about that.

  4. I would guess that as well. A couple of observations about Malloy and Nevin which are variables in future call ups: Nevin is on the 40 and Malloy is not. Nevin is older (over 3 years older) and has more professional experience (2015 vs 2021 pro debut). Nevin has played more as an interchangeable piece which would probably be a short term benefit to Hinch. Henry is the long term play and so there is no reason to rush him from Toledo if he's scalding the ball but his glove still needs work. I know it been mentioned that Schoop is likely gone by the trade deadline whether or not he is traded. I'm not convinced he makes it that long if Nevin is making a case for a call up.
  5. I think he mentioned somewheres that Nevin had a 4th option granted.
  6. Was Vierling used at 3B this spring training? We saw Baez used at 2B a decent amount and he's not been used off of SS. Granted, it's only been 7 games. But this is a game where the interchangeability of position players helped allow Hinch make some moves late in the game. It was still a loss in the end. But he had a chance to try better matchups later in the game than he would have previous rosters.
  7. His one really good season was 2020. Had it been a normal 162 game season, how would his final line have looked? So, yeah, I was surprised when he was brought back, also. I suppose every GM has his mystery moves. Retaining Cisnero and Short are probably among the tops for Harris.
  8. I thought that was a pretty cool ceremonial first pitch. Shepard referred to it as the "Mount Rushmore" which seems a little much. But having stalwarts out there from the 3 other major sports and then calling Cabrera out was a nice touch. I wonder if Cabrera knew about it? I was watching BSD and it showed Cabrera in the dugout before the trio of retirees was introduced. He had a sudden expression of awe and excitement while he was looking towards the dugout tunnel right before the camera showed WallaceB in the dugout. If it was a surprise to Cabrera, it was very well done.
  9. Torkelson has been getting plenty of practice at scooping this season. Its nice that (1) he can do it well and (2) Baez has confidence in Torkelson to do it, but some of Baez' throws have just been poor.
  10. I think I prefer the out of town scoreboard in line of sight of the game as opposed to pulling my phone out of my pocket. Although I guess with the quicker pace of the game now I might not look at the scoreboard until in between innings anyway. Its an interest point, though. It seems like one of those features that were assumed necessary at the park. Now that it's gone, I think people realize that, hey, maybe its not so necessary. Every once in a while I'll have someone in my office and they realize I don't have a wall clock. But I don't need one. I have one on the computer, on my cell phone, on the office phone. Same difference, I guess.
  11. Detroit Pistons vs Indiana Pacers
  12. Maybe he needs to start talking about himself in the third person. It worked for Rickey.
  13. Long hair, a frilly & bedazzled jacket, and leather pants? Quite the conservative manly get up has going there.
  14. Too many syllables for a lot of social media accounts to understand. There's too much focus on stuffing people into one side or the other these days.
  15. The ironies are fun. Kid Rock's hat and Kid Rock's drink. Abhorring men with makeup vs going whole hog for Trump as president.
  16. I'm missing the Wolfie reference for Maton. Its probably obvious, but I'm an idiot.
  17. Boston has allowed 14 stolen bases without throwing anyone out so far in this early season.
  18. Yes, they both deserve credit. "Mike Brown, coach of the year" is just not a phrase that I thought I'd hear coming from Sacramento.
  19. So that's, what, 160 IPs in exchange for 1,500 PAs plus defense & baserunning? That probably minimizes the impact of pitching a bit. But it also doesn't take into consideration time remaining before free agency, so there's that variable, too.
  20. Mike Brown, coach of the year?
  21. I don't know if it was mentioned before, but his minor league OBP is above .400. How often do you see that? Heck, college, summer ball, minors, all above .400. There was the 147 PAs in A ball Augusta where is OBP bottomed out at .388, but I think we can let that go by the wayside. Hopefully his glove plays solidly somewhere on the field. Small sample size, but Toledo has had him at 3B/DH. He was split pretty evenly last season between 3B/LF in Atlanta's organization, but 3B pretty much exclusively aside from that. I don't know if that's a sign of his glove or if Atlanta had to shuffle a couple of 3Bdudes around to other positions for playing time.
  22. I was kind of hoping he'd be sent up to pinch hit in the 9th. I wanted to see that cowboy hat on him as he strolled up to the plate.
