  1. I can't imagine they would extend him.
  2. The other thing about Ivey. He is 66 games into his rookie season and no signs of hitting the "rookie wall". OK, his 3pt shooting has cratered a bit in March, but that's only 4 games. It did appear that he had some extra heat on some passes early last night. A bit less heat, a bit more touch. Maybe the pass wasn't really there to begin with? But, like you said, he's going to make mistakes. The progression is there.
  3. Cherish the moments we have now....
  4. I think that's probably true. He'll either be released or traded before the end of the season. But it does kind of beg the question, what if he has a good season and doesn't get traded (for whatever reason)? Do the Tigers still release him or do they keep him to finish out the season?
  5. Bingo. This is part of why there's no point in declaring what the roster will be 3 weeks before Opening Day.
  6. I suspect this front office won't allow for 2023 Schoop to have 320 PAs at 2022 Grossman levels. He either performs or he's gone. The obvious flip side to that is they could have just let Schoop loose over the offseason. Its possible the front office sees a solve to his dismal 2022, and his BABIP was pretty unlucky. To Schoop's credit, he showed up to camp in pretty good condition. Maybe we'll see a turnaround. If not, I think its unlikely he's around to the trade deadline.

  8. I think the only position players assured of making the opening day roster (provided good health) are Haase, Baez, Greene, MeadowsA, and Cabrera. I think these 5 are indisputable, maybe for different reasons than the others in the group. I think Vierling likely makes the team as the main RHH OF and Maton as the main LHH IF. I think Schoop likely makes the team also as he took his conditioning seriously and is a reasonable bounce back candidate. I do think at least one of Baddoo/Carpenter make the team, and both could. I think there’s even an outside chance that MeadowsP steals a roster spot and one or both of Baddoo/Carpenter start the season in Toledo. I think Rogers still needs to prove he is in MLB baseball shape. I think Haase is going to get some LF opportunities if Vierling is the only RHH OF and Rogers proves strong enough to make the roster. None of this is to say that Torkelson/Nevin/Lipcius/other have nochance at making the roster. They certainly could. I just don’t think there are as many roster guarantees as you do right now. I think there’s plenty of opportunities for guys to play themselves up or down.
  9. He followed it up with a walk and a double. Not bad.
  10. Yeah, there are no excuses next season, save for a glut of injuries. It should be playoffs or regime change.
  11. Its taken a lot of hard work, but the Pistons are finally on top.
  12. Cunningham looks much taller on TV.

  18. And with some of the better pitchers heading to the WBC for a bit, he might see some inferior stuff for a bit longer. I’m not at all opposed to him making the team if he proves his worth. Somewhere along the line there’s going to be a tough decision to make. And if MeadowsP makes the team, it’s got to be at the expense of one of Carpenter/Baddoo, does it not? It’s likely not going to be MeadowsA/Greene. They can’t carry 5 LHH OFs, can they?
  19. His voice might be frail, but there’s usually context to what he’s saying.
  20. Speaking of bullets….
  21. So I wonder if the Tigers stay overnight in Fort Myers for their game tomorrow vs Boston? It’s a little over two hours one way from Fort Myers to Lakeland.
  22. Now that’s patently false. The Tigers don’t have enough base runners for Gibson to talk about secondary leads all that much.
  23. I don’t want the guy to hurt himself. But I also don’t want to see him poorly imitate a mirage of an inadequate DH this season.
  24. It’s a bit tangenty, but it’s better than Angry Jack talking about back in his day. And, yes, tangenty is a word.
  25. He looked good today. It’s only one game, but it’s encouraging.
