  1. The silence is deafening, don't you think?
  2. Just wait until owners realize shorter games means less concession sales volume.
  3. 38 field goal attempts in 39 minutes played? How did he have time for 6 assists and 2 turnovers?

  6. It’s in each of the leagues’ best interest to keep its product on TV. I’m not so sure that they need to be in kahootz with each other to do so. Let’s say for instance MLB is rolling along trying to figure out how to manages its 30 teams. But at the same time, WGN or YES networks are trying to figure out how to manage multiple sports teams from the same metro. Or what about RSNs that do multiple sports with different and same teams? There are two Ohio BS RSNs, one for the Cleveland Guardians and one for the Cincinnati Reds. Both carry the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Columbus Blue Jackets. My guess is that those teams would end up broadcast by the leagues, but maybe some rich family wants a crack at an Ohio based RSN to replace BS RSNs? I have no idea about all league NBA or NHL packages. Are they available for strictly out of market (like MLB blackout restrictions), or are all games available for a particular team or all teams?
  7. My guess is it remains to be seen. Theory doesn’t always match reality. The books are probably going to lose some bets with the quicker pace. However that part of revenue that flows into MLB’s bank account from betting is probably offset and then some by revenues from increased volume of eyeballs on TVs, ears tuned to radios, and butts in seats (and concession stands). Surely that’s what MLB hopes.
  8. They had a chuckle for sure. The Phillies were a split squad yesterday, so it’s not hard to imagine some extra kid(s) with no shot of the majors got a bus ride to Lakeland yesterday.
  9. I can see an argument for having Hayes playing “starter minutes” to develop. But that can be done coming off of the bench, too. I think there’s also a point that this current guard arrangement is better to losing games and increasing lottery odds than a starting backcourt of Ivey and Burks. Hopefully this is the last season to consider winning the lottery for a long time.
  10. And just shaking off the rust of not calling a game for months. And less time in between pitches to work with and discuss these items, too. And with it being the first spring training game, there are players leavening and entering the game darn near every half inning. They did have their first mystery player of the spring yesterday. Some random Phillie with an unrostered uniform number and no name on the back of his jersey. Nice to get that one out of the way early.
  11. I’ll be honest. I was just so happy to hear a ballgame that I didn’t pay much attention to the broadcast. I don’t know if that makes much sense or not.
  12. I'm watching them, too, but I don't always pick up on what everyone else picks up on. I agree, its been fun watching Ivey develop this season. It stinks that he couldn't do so along Cunningham this season, but we'll get that next season, hopefully along with Wembanyama. I know Wiseman was a hotly discussed topic, but I like the pickup. I think he'll show he can be a viable front court option around the paint. How that fits in with today's game, not sure. But if the talent is there, the talent is there. Having talent makes it easier to trade for similar level but different skill set talent that might fit the team in a different/better way. Bey for Wiseman? Some folks didn't like the fit, and I can understand that. But if they can develop the talent and find themselves with an excess big that they can trade to a team with a need for a big that has an excess perimeter player to send in return, I don't think we'll be upset with that.
  13. It was a competitive game that came down to the final moment that resulted in a loss and strengthens the draft pick status.

  15. The Tigers just turned a triple play! Oh baby, I got a feeling about this club....
  16. Dickerson is ready to go north.
  17. I don't know. It sounded like at least 112 or 113 over the broadcast.
  18. Tears of sadness or tears of joyness?
  19. Yup. No easing into it, let's rip the band aid off and go. I had heard a point made elsewhere that makes some sense. The younger players who have been exposed to this in the minors, they should be set in the new ways whilst the older major leaguers are going to the ones that need to be removed from their ways. In fairness to them, that slow approach was allowed. But if MLB wants to change old habits, change them from day one.
  20. There probably wasn't a trade to move Baez and they would likely be on the hook for the whole contract if he were released. My guess is that the combination of his 2022 and his contract is such that the Tigers would have had to take on an equally frustrating issue or add assets to a package to move him. So, I'm not sure why anyone expected that he'd be a goner. If the Tigers want to move him, the best bet is that he has a very good 2023 and they can move him or he opts out after the season.
