A million chances, eh? I agree, he needs to show something this season. So are you suggesting that Cabrera is a better ballplayer than Baddoo? What about Carpenter? I think the fact that Carpenter can't field a position is a huge negative, and I am probably a bit more harsh on that than most folks. I've seen/heard suggestions about trying him at 1B. I don't know if with a new regime they can figure out something with him defensively or not. But his bat is something this team sorely needed last season, and could be beneficial going forward. So, you keep avoiding who Boyd and Lorenzen are blocking?

I don't know if you pulled 7 out of nowhere or if you were dialed in with that. But his last 6 seasons have been crap and this season won't be much better. As far as showing respect, sure, he had a great career. Hall of fame, first ballot. Lots of great memories. But he's completely worthless on an active roster. People bag on Hinch for moving position players around and searching for interchangeability. But he has to in part because Cabrera creates a roster crunch.

Who has said anything about Greene being platooned? He'll need a day off every once in a while, but aside from that, he's an everyday player. I look forward to your next updated roster Saturday morning.

I would say Wentz being ready as an MLB SP is debatable. I would say Cabrera being an MLB baseball player is laughable.

Disagree. If Cabrera didn't have a $30M salary this season, he wouldn't be on a MLB roster. He cannot hit well. He cannot play defense at all. He cannot run well. There will be baseball players in Toledo that are better than Cabrera. Now, you may not personally give a rip about those guys in Toledo, but to say he isn't blocking anyone is completely false.

I missed out on the full bluster of it because I was just too young at the time. I have the lore and the stories to go by. And the legendary Sports Illustrated cover. And the grainy Monday night game vs New York. Man..... to be around and following the Tigers at that time. But you're right, there's no way it would be the same these days. Media is so much different. Baseball scouting is different. Chris Shelton captured the fans' imagination. Akil Baddoo certainly did. These are a couple of guys that shot out of nowhere to have good rookie seasons. But for as much fun as those stories were, I can't imagine anything comparing to how Fidrych burst onto the scene.
