But my concern with the Toledo SPs not getting past 5 IP is that Detroit’s going to need starts from its 7th, 8th, 9th SPs at some point. Sure, they shouldn’t be expected to go 8 IP once they’re promoted, but there appears to not be much depth at all in the SP bin.

I’d consider it from the Pistons’ side even if there needs to be some back and forth with other picks/player. And who knows maybe Portland is more willing than would be assumed in order to make Lillard happy.

I will be more interested in the morale and spirit of the club to go forward and play ball than I will be of its 40 game record.

He was at the bag and on the side of the bag where the throw was coming from. Can't fault him for that. I guess the other variable is the bounce of the ball on the throw. I think its tough to determine from the camera angles if it was a true bounce or if it happened to skip/redirect on Torkelson. All in all, the play should have been merely a harmless pop up out with the runner staying at 1B. Refsnyder gave Baez and Torkelson a chance to make it a double play with a nearly perfect throw and they nearly pulled it off.

The most important comparison is that we were all 20 years younger.

In all seriousness, this should be a highly sought after job, shouldn’t it? It’s a young team, they’re going to add a lottery pick, they’ve got good cap standing. It’s not a perfect scenario by any means, but it’s also not a situation with old players, cap issues and known locker room problems.

I may be wrong, but I don’t believe any Mud Hen SP has thrown at least 5 innings in any of the 9 games so far this season. Nevin goes 2-4 and his AVG drops. Life ain’t fair.

Maybe he simply didn't like the way college basketball was headed. Maybe he just needed some time off to recharge. I don't know if he would translate well to the NBA or not. But this would be an intriguing option.

Oh, I don't know about that. The way/reason he was let go just seems highly unusual and suspicious. And he's been out there this whole season. If the Celtics simply overreacted, it seems like he'd have gotten his next gig by now, right?

Maybe this has been mentioned before and I missed it. But BSD is showing OPS rather than the traditional AVG for the starting lineups, and also including the league average OPS for reference. I like it.

The irony is that last season we wouldn't be as critical because the bases were smaller and neither play would be as close as they were today. On offense, it looked like he short strided the base. This one is just inexcusable. On defense, I get what he was doing to bait Refsnyder into a lull, but I wonder if he underestimated the distance of the throw from the base and that led to a missed out? Helluva play by Baez which maybe the odds of completing the double play are pretty remote anyway. Of all the throws to make pretty much on line, its this one?

I would guess that as well. A couple of observations about Malloy and Nevin which are variables in future call ups: Nevin is on the 40 and Malloy is not. Nevin is older (over 3 years older) and has more professional experience (2015 vs 2021 pro debut). Nevin has played more as an interchangeable piece which would probably be a short term benefit to Hinch. Henry is the long term play and so there is no reason to rush him from Toledo if he's scalding the ball but his glove still needs work. I know it been mentioned that Schoop is likely gone by the trade deadline whether or not he is traded. I'm not convinced he makes it that long if Nevin is making a case for a call up.

I think he mentioned somewheres that Nevin had a 4th option granted.

Was Vierling used at 3B this spring training? We saw Baez used at 2B a decent amount and he's not been used off of SS. Granted, it's only been 7 games. But this is a game where the interchangeability of position players helped allow Hinch make some moves late in the game. It was still a loss in the end. But he had a chance to try better matchups later in the game than he would have previous rosters.

His one really good season was 2020. Had it been a normal 162 game season, how would his final line have looked? So, yeah, I was surprised when he was brought back, also. I suppose every GM has his mystery moves. Retaining Cisnero and Short are probably among the tops for Harris.
