  1. The bottom line for me with MeadowsP and the LHH OFs is what’s best for the long haul for MeadowsP? Is his game mature enough to play in MLB or does he need more time in the minors? If it’s the latter, then that’s an easy decision, he goes to Toledo and everything else works out however it works out. If his game is ready, he’s in the mix for Detroit, but is probably still best served playing every day. Maybe that’s still Toledo if the Tigers are set on Baddoo/Carpenter/Vierling in LF.
  2. If MeadowsA is forced to play vs LHPs, just slot him lower in the lineup. Then there’s less chance of a 3rd PA vs the LHSP. Ideally a team has enough everyday players to allow for platoons and still create a full lineup, but that ain’t gonna be the Tigers in 2023. it doesn’t mean they can roll with an almost all LHH OF and almost all RHH IF. But they’ll have to find that happy medium somehow along with covering defensively and carrying an immovable object in his final deadweight season.
  3. I think Cody Stavenhagen mentioned in last week’s podcast that Vierling has better speed than Greene, but Greene has better jumps and reads. No idea where MeadowsP factors in.
  4. There’s always the possibility of a trade to alleviate some of that LHH OF jam. To me Carpenter seems like the kind of guy that Tampa or Oakland would take. Interesting bat, defense not necessarily so. Baddoo is still young enough some team would take him, it’s just a matter of what the return would be. How has MeadowsP looked vs offspeed stuff? Has his offense come mostly on fastballs? There’s the spring training stat line which might look quite nice, but what’s behind those numbers is more important to me.
  5. Kinda makes one wish there was a stat for "loud outs".
  6. I think the prevailing theory is that at least one of Baddoo/Carpenter makes the team and likely both. I don't think it will happen, but I wouldn't be shocked at all if both start the season in Toledo. Carpenter and Cabrera on the same roster is essentially like carrying 2 DHs. I'm not sure that there's enough defensive flexibility elsewhere on the roster to handle that if all three of Baddoo/Cabrera/Carpenter are on the roster. Then again, this first half of the season might be a throw away to figure things out for the future anyway.
  7. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. But anyone with an opinion different than yours needs their eyes checked.

  10. I think that's reasonable to hold off to the 12th. How many games get that far to begin with?
  11. It is interesting how the baseball atmosphere can be so different from culture to culture. Oakland's home crowds, especially in the playoffs, are quite a contrast to the rest of MLB.
  12. Gotta give Manfred credit for this.
  13. Quality loss. I can't believe there are still 15 more of these to slog through.

  15. Nobody is Trayce Thompson v2. Nobody is Trayce Thompson 2.0. Nobody is Trayce Thompson Jr. There can not, will not, shall not be another Trayce Thompson. OK, I suppose there could be a Jr, I might have gone too far there.
  16. Next year will be the 40th anniversary of the 1984 World Series team. Be sure to purchase your official World Series replica hat from the MLB store before they run out.

  20. I can't imagine they would extend him.
  21. The other thing about Ivey. He is 66 games into his rookie season and no signs of hitting the "rookie wall". OK, his 3pt shooting has cratered a bit in March, but that's only 4 games. It did appear that he had some extra heat on some passes early last night. A bit less heat, a bit more touch. Maybe the pass wasn't really there to begin with? But, like you said, he's going to make mistakes. The progression is there.
  22. Cherish the moments we have now....
  23. I think that's probably true. He'll either be released or traded before the end of the season. But it does kind of beg the question, what if he has a good season and doesn't get traded (for whatever reason)? Do the Tigers still release him or do they keep him to finish out the season?
  24. Bingo. This is part of why there's no point in declaring what the roster will be 3 weeks before Opening Day.
