I think it was a partial catch and partial trap. I don't think the replay was conclusively showing the ball landing on the grass. I also think the angle of Kwan's glove was outward enough that it overcame some of the downward that a mind might think for a trapped ball. Obviously as fan I wanted the ball to be ruled a hit. But, I was also curious what the ruling of Perez would have been had they ruled it a hit. He was eventually tagged out between 1st and. Would they have awarded everyone one base? Would they have ruled Perez out on the basepaths after safely singling? Considering how iffy that ball was and how inconclusive the replay was, I was surprised how quickly that the final verdict was arrived it.

As an "away" fan? Oh, heck yes.

I think yesterday was the first time in this run that I've been anxious. I exploded when the ball left Carpenter's bat. I forgot who warning tracked one to RF shortly before that, but I thought that one was going to carry until Noel started walking in on the ball after retreating to the wall. But the launch off of Carpenter's bat, that was a release of some nerves for me. But I have to agree with the aging variable. I think it tempers down the emotions a bit. Either that or the reality of the unexpected climb from nowhere into the playoffs has rendered this time as simply enjoyable.

So, which was more odd visually? The home plate umpire's fluctuating strike zone or @chasfh in jeggings?

I wonder if it was simply a matter of Brieske already warming up? Plus Foley puts a lot of balls in play. Maybe the braintrust was hoping for a 1-0 and just thought the risk/reward vs Cleveland's lineup was more favorable to a better swing & miss option?

That play doesn't even make any sense. Why did UCLA have its second string place kicker on defense? Why did PSU have a nose tackle specimen in motion on offense?

I suspect with the extra off days that Cleveland had before this series and this series being 5 games in 8 days, that Cleveland bullpen will come in as early as needed. Its well rested and the schedule allows it be well rested with a modest work load from the starters. So that might mean scratching out a quick 3 or 4 on Boyd and Skubal is simply going to have to Skubal.

Might as well even up the series.

I guess I fail to see how loud, obnoxious, and usually wrong equates to tough, but OK.
