I’ll be honest. The way this season is going, a loss doesn’t move me much. Last night sucked, but it happens, it just ain’t happened much to the Tigers this season. The other thing is, they just have not been in much of a slump and are in complete control of the division. I’d probably live and die harder if they were in danger of the division lead. If they lose today, there’s another game tomorrow. That’s kind of how I’ve looked at it this season.

So what do you do the day after they’ve done both? Jello fighting with a silent post game platter of ribs?

Yeah, but this doesn’t necessarily disprove craziness. Maybe this post was just the right amount of crazy.

When Torkelson fielded the ball, I thought he was just for the lead runner. But his throw was placed perfectly enough and he had the wherewithal to get back to the bag. It didn’t seem like he had enough on his throw to lead to a double play, but Baez’ return was on the target and with appropriate speed. That’s as good of a 3-6-3 as you’ll see. We can’t tell. We can only speculate. But I would bet Torkelson’s mindset this season is in a much, much better place than last season. The physical, tangent, numerical offensive results are there. But the defensive eye test is there, too. So fun to see that.

On another hand, if he's going to miss time, this would be the time to do so. The OF has depth. There's a few extra off days coming up from the all star break. The large lead in the division.

I’ll be honest. I’m still not sure I consider them to be the best team in the American League, let alone baseball. Not from a roster standpoint, anyway. I’m waiting to see an eventual regression to the norm. But maybe they are this good. They have the record. They’re well coached. The whole of the team can be greater than the sum of its parts. I don’t know. I guess we just enjoy the ride while we have it.

I can be a creature of habit too much. This Sunday night game time has me all out of sorts.
