  1. Pudge hit the way we all did when we were kids, especially when we were young enough that nobody threw breaking balls. He had the talent to pull it off, we didn't. At no point, not even once, did any coach ever tell me that I didn't have to swing at strike one if it wasn't right down the middle. I think that when I was 10 it was probably about 10 years earlier than Ted Williams' book with that famous diagram of the strike zone divided into 9 sections. If I'd seen that when I was 10 it would have made a big difference. So I agree that the Tigers can be too selective at times, but I think you'd need a lot of talent to succeed with the Pudge approach.
  2. The Blue Jays' sport coat was the best, the players loved it, and they had the good sense to let it die at the end of the year.
  3. I expected to see Christin Stewart on the list.
  4. Tigers pitchers loved having Gary Pettis in center and they wouldn't have cared if he didn't get on base all year.
  5. I agree about Cisnero, he has not f'd up in every single appearance. But still, every time he enters the game, I make sure that the ceremonial dagger is within easy reach. What will we get for him at the deadline? Maton 2.0
  6. I've decided to allow Olson to stay, he's done some good things.
  7. Chafin is on the way to having a terrific year, his best, but he's 33. Getting Holton, sort of in exchange in a weird sort of way, was an outcome that takes away a lot of the disappointment about not getting Chafin back.
  8. Yes, he has had some good performances.
  9. Seager missed 5 weeks but other than that he has been a video game this year. Keeping him off the bases is a key to success.
  10. 16 K's, 3 walks, and for a nice change it was the other team's hitters.
  11. Yes he had some power and could run the bases. Perhaps they didn't like his defense.
  12. Ben Oglivie was another LH batter.
  13. I hope there aren't any open windows where he is staying.
  14. I wouldn't have minded keeping Candelario, but I also didn't mind letting him go. I think Harris gave Candelario's money to Lorenzen.
  15. That's funny, there used to be a local barbershop here who could only have survived as long as it did by dealing.
  16. Incaviglia and Tony Phillips were the guys who used to stuff little Prince Fielder into lockers and garbage cans.
  17. This would have been the ideal time to promote him if his bat had held up a bit better.
  18. Nevin isn't much, but there isn't anyone at Toledo right now who is.
  19. I was happy about the possibilities for Maton and Vierling compared to Harold and Willi. Maton isn't working out, obviously.
  20. A few days on the bench would be the best thing for Maton, if he isn't going to go to Toledo. Just sit a few games out, forget about the platoons and the super cool L R batting order.
  21. Have to keep Maton for the devilishly clever L R L R L R batting order.
  22. That's a good win, like any time you beat the Twins.
