Well that's what I thought until I checked his "games by position" on MLB.com...he's played 6 positions there too, including 22 at third base. So Detroit isn't the only team with that delusion. His platoon split is interesting...OPS of exactly .696 from both sides of the plate. Not exactly tearing the cover off, with an OPS+ of 93.
I'm so happy that he isn't here any more. Good luck to him, nothing personal, but he seems to inspire managers to prove how clever they are.
Are there any lefty hitting catchers out there? Ernie Whitt? Ron Hassey? I have to confess, I don't follow the rest of the league closely enough anymore to know anything about players on the other teams.
Devil take the hindmost. First Maton, now Schoop. Who is the worst player on the team now? Toss-up between Marisnick and Haase I guess.
Harris does a lot of things right.
Paredes is just an example of promoting a guy too soon. He is 24 now and enjoying sustained success for the first time. There was no need to push him into the majors at 21 and again at 22, especially since they didn't like his glove very much. But it was a crap team and Avila needed something to brag about, such as this great young player that he had been clever enough to acquire. And the player did not succeed, he was not ready.
Which is why I don't want to see Keith and Malloy promoted.
Vierling and Carpenter deserve to play, the other 7 guys don't. But what are you gonna do? I'd put McKinstry in, yes against a lefthander, and Rogers of course, yes day game after night game, but there is nothing else of any value that is available.
