Yes I am not seeing Baddoo as a 600 PA guy anymore, I was hoping for that in his rookie year. He provides bursts of excitement now and then but he's not the 20/20 guy that I was hoping for.
I just don't want Meadows to be platooned this year and I am 100% certain that he would be. I think that in a successful organization platooning is a tactic, not a strategy...a tactic borne of necessity. With the Tigers it seems to be a strategy.
That's fine except we've seen too much of Haase and Ibanez in the outfield and there's no reason to assume that it won't continue, that they won't take playing time away from Meadows. I agree that Baddoo hasn't done enough to keep his spot.
Look at those 5 years from 1984 to 1988, the guy was a metronome - 28 homers, 31 steals, 140 OPS+. Everyone else on that team had at least 1 off year during that period, but not him.
Haase being restricted to catching causes another problem in that it takes playing time away from Rogers who is superior in every aspect of the game.
I'm curious about something. In the past couple of weeks I have seen references to "pitchers like throwing to him". How did that become a fact...was it catching the no-hitter? Or maybe that "catcher's ERA" analysis? Expert insider opinion?
I didn't like Torkelson's instincts there. There were 2 out on only 7 pitches, and he swings at the first one which was not middle middle, instead of making Lyles throw a few more. If we had done that as teenagers we'd have gotten yelled at.
