Right now Threads seems like everyone is throwing things on the wall to see what sticks. I'm hopeful that there will eventually be an option of just seeing people or topics you follow. I'm not crazy about the current hodgepodge but it's only day two. Let's see how things shake out once the shiny new toy feeling wears off.

Quick update; I checked the app and it showed that I had paid (2.85) for about 2 1/2 hours. Went to the office in Williamsburg to pay the fine. I told them I was a bit confused and showed them the receipt on the app. Turns out I had put in the license plate wrong, I was in a bit of hurry and mistyped it I guess. They waived the fee since it was apparent i've already paid. The only cost I had was the round trip time and gas.

New peeve. I received a notice of a parking ticket for a local municipal garage that requires a parking app. I'm sure I used the app on the day in question, but since I was in a bit of hurry, and there was a poor Wi-Fi connection it's possible it didn't go thru. I was in the garage for about 2 hours. The city sends me a notice asking to pay, however when the website to do so is not friendly to mobile devises (phone, iPad, etc). When we tried on the laptop the site is not registering username, email, etc, or allowing us to create a new account. This means I need to drive to city hall, write a check for $2 (plus whatever fees they decide to tack on). Not a huge deal, just a headache

My Congress critter lives there (Tappahannock), he's pretty Trumpy. We still a fair number of flags heading back Saturday thru Washington, Pa, into Winchester and down toward Fredericksburg be fore we got hit by the monsoon. I agree, just not a prominent as in the past. There are still a few in the Virginia portion of Pennsylvania that have numerous yard "decorations" Just an aside, it was just this weekend that I learned that the area around Washington and Pittsburgh Pa was considered part of the Virginia Colony in the 1750s. Also how G Washington could afford to accumulate all his properties for being a poor boy from Stafford.

July 4th Fireworks. Not the usual complaint about noise thru out the weekend however. I'm seeing some discussion about CW's fireworks and people planning on staking out spots as early as 9 AM. These are folks who would usually never set foot in the place and complain about ticket costs. I just don't get it. We have plans for a late lunch, early dinner there Tuesday, possibly will go and catch Thomas Jefferson read the Declaration of Independence. Their fireworks are great but nothing is worth packing in with a couple thousand other people searching for parking, fighting traffic and jockeying for an extra 6 inches of real estate. Just call me Otto.

This has to be the sickest and most bazaar ad produced for a candidate I've ever seen. Who in their right mind support whomever approved this ad?

We had a similar situation with a mortgage lender after deciding against them. The hard sell and never take no for an answer is definitely a turnoff.

JMU was originally a woman's college until about 1966 (I had to look it up, it wasn't on my radar in 1970 as a co-ed school). I think in some areas it's still considered a teachers' school. TBH, given a do-over I might have considered it over the quickie Famous Broadcaster School. I haven't spent much time in Harrisonburg recently, but I think the location might play a factor in the demographics considering other local options.

Yesterday was Mel Brooks 97th birthday. There was a lot written about Blazing Saddles, but I feel High Anxiety was his best film. A great parody of the 1960s and early 70s thrillers. My favorite scene, nobody does it better...

I had an uncle who was a barber. Looking back I'm sure he ran book. Nice house on Pittsburgh's North Side, always a new car. He once called my father claiming to make big bucks on the Notre Dame/Va Tech NIT Championship game in the early 70s when the tournament actually mattered. Come to think about it both my grandmother's brothers were funny that way..

This looks like a fairly good discussion of the Russian Military Doctrine and where things stand. He does get a bit into the weeds....bottom line it's going to be slog.. https://open.substack.com/pub/mickryan/p/the-state-of-the-ukraine-campaign?utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email https://open.substack.com/pub/mickryan/p/the-state-of-the-ukraine-campaign?r=45wcm&utm_medium=ios&utm_campaign=post

If We Were Vampires is one of those for me. Especially after reaching that age and facing our version of "retirement" whatever that is. "Maybe we'll get 40 years together. One of us will have to be alone" edit..we're coming up on 43. As my wife remarked recently, "I think we've become that cute old couple some people talk about"

I recently watched Running With Our Eyes Closed, the documentary on Isbell and Amanda Shires. That led me to a deep dive into his music. So many songs that hit you in the tender spots. Incredible song writer and artist.
