  1. We don't get 3 "kiss and make up" 1st rounders from MLB for that?
  2. I like this ideology/ method... A little more fleshing out: I think Madden, Flores & Bergner will start out in AAA, and get any MLB starts based on turn-in-the-rotation, etc... Hurter, I think, won't make AAA until at least mid-season and therefore would be more of an end of season consideration... and might be a bullpen consideration at that (Hurter), not necessarily lined up to get a start or two... Just my 2 cents.
  3. I'm OK with signing another vet starter... although I don't feel any particular leaning towards what level that starter is (not related to anything you've posted, just adding an extra 2 cents...). I think the next vet starter would be primarily for, as you've stated it, insurance. And to me that really could be anything so I won't sweat whoever that guy might turn out to be as much as... just glad if we add one more "guy" just to have in the mix...
  4. Next question... based on Harris's comments as SoCal pointed out... How much MLB time do we see in 2023 for Wenceel Perez? Switch-hitting infielder with speed, and some developing power, and no noticeable split variances...
  5. Is there a Lottery Party or should I just down a few shots screaming "CHEERS!" after each one?
  6. Italics are my comments/ info.... But I wanted to address this in the form of some Q&A... feel free to participate if interested: The Question is: who will be 2023 Wentz and Brieske? And, hopefully we don't get this deep in 2023, but who might be a Garrett Hill if it comes to that? Because... the answers to those questions, IMO, are intriguing. I think all 4 of these guys will make it to AAA in 2023: Wilmer Flores, Ty Madden, Austin Bergner & Brant Hurter. The first two being higher end potential (probably MUCH higher potential than Wentz & Brieske), and Bergner & Hurter being back-end rotation talents like Hill. I think all 4 of these guys will be ready to make MLB debuts if called upon, although probably closer to mid-to-end of season rather than at the beginning.... Any comments/ thoughts?
  7. I'm not certain about MAGA but he sounds like a serious deuchebag... whatever his politics may be...
  8. I think this is the most likely scenario. I don't see a trade happening. And... I approve this message.
  9. Hmmmm... This might not go over very well...
  10. On the flipside: Especially growing up in Detroit... I had a massive love affair with Motown. I can't get enough of it and have expanded from there to Atlantic Blues, 70's R&B and modern R&B, trip hop, electronica (with R&B singers). Also Jazz, bebop, hard bop, etc. I adore Marvin Gaye, the Temptations, Etta James, Billy Holiday, Sam Cooke, Jr. Walker and the All-Stars, Macy Gray, Doris Troy, Miles Davis, Wynton & Branford Marsalis, Diana Ross, and the Supremes, John Coltrane... also Sade, Manu Dubango, Habib Koite, Bamada, and other African musicians. And I haven't even begun to scratch the surface. But disco still sucks.
  11. I was too young to know that at the time... I just thought disco sucked (too heavily invested in Black Sabbath, Zep, the Who etc... to appreciate anything disco...). Wasn't it a WRIF-Rock show that "electrocuted" disco lovers (nor really, just sound effects...) on the air? "Hello? Who is this? Do you love disco?" "Yes." "BZZZZZZZZZZZZZT!!!"
  12. I nominate The Waterboy... At which point we will go 14-0 for the remainder of the season.
  13. It's on his Christmas wish list: "Santa, can I be dictator of America for life please? I've been a good boy this year, ask Nick Fuentes and Kanye West..."
  14. The defense today is much better than at the start of the season though... Much, much better. Add a few top-notch defensive playmakers in next year's draft... and maybe a key defensive FA and... They might actually have a really, really good defense next year. IMO.
  15. I'm not going to stress out about the move Harris made... Just picking through some of the logic...
  16. Maybe it's me but, damaged goods (could be just semantics...) means that you're getting pretty much zero value in the upcoming year... I'm interested in someone recovering value (after an injury year or an underperforming year... like Candy or Boyd in 2023); not interested in damaged goods (Boyd in 2022...). At least based on my definition, Candy is not damaged goods, he's a recovery play after a subpar year. Per Chas's first point - if the Tiger's believe he can get back to a 1-2 WAR player than her is worth tendering at $7 mill - I preferred to tender him. Per Chas's other points that there may be other issues that made them more willing to offer less than the tender and were open to losing him if he didn't accept... I think this is where you may be calling it a "damaged goods" situation... I don't believe the Tigers viewed Candy as "damaged goods" in either definition... I'm under the belief that the Tigers did not want to take the "risk" or put a premium cost (the Arb number) on the recovery play, the risk being that he has another bad year or cannot get back to higher than a 0.5-ish WAR... so if he wouldn't agree to $5 mill (just guessing) with the Tigers they were non-tendering. It basically gets us to the exact same spot... I just think there are different reasons for ending up at that spot than what you and Chas are surmising...
  17. And here ya' go: https://theathletic.com/3959712/2022/12/02/killian-hayes-pistons-mavericks-overtime/ But... actually... I'm one of those who is not yet ready to give up on the kid... Still only 21 and that's just way too early to give up on him... I just hate giving up on players until they've proven to me that they just can't cut it and it takes me forever to give up on a guy who I think has talent. It's why I obsess over trading away or giving up on Middleton's and Dinwiddie's and Christian Wood's and stuff... It's even why I couldn't give up on Drummond and his 10-cent head... I'm just wait and see on Killian to see what he is when he fully matures.
  18. Except the next headline is (will be): "Snowden just conscripted into the Russian Army and has been sent to Kherson province to help stem recent Ukrainian advances towards Crimea..."
  19. And the 1980's interest rate levels (very high) and resulting recession were requirements to kill off the stagnation malaise the country had been mired in since Nixon...
  20. They're not at the top of the draft so I don't know if anything will fall to us other than a lottery ticket reliever. Here's to hoping Harris can be as effective as AL AVILA in the Rule V draft...
  21. Also a high degree of likelihood IMO.
  22. I believe this has a high degree of likelihood. I don't know about the 4 Wins... but even at 3.5-ish (close enough to the 4) he'll get that contract. And it won't be us.
  23. I don't agree with this. If he's this bad, you don't even negotiate/ offer, you just non-tender. What purpose does making an offer knowing he wouldn't accept it serve? It's pointless IMO. Don't like the guy? Let him go. There's no reason to make farce offers/ negotiations...
  24. If they believed he was damaged goods then why did they try to negotiate a 2023 contract with him? You don't negotiate with damaged goods. You just walk away.
  25. This I believe to be true... They may have even believed he had the potential to get back to a 2 +/- Win player but didn't want to shoulder the burden of proof... As evidenced by their offer, their non-tender, and the actual signing value of his Nats contract...
