  1. It's going to be time, in next year's draft... to look for Amani's understudy and eventual replacement. Unless that's Melifonwu?
  2. I'm 100% on board with this. All of it.
  3. I would look to some young MLB players like him who haven't solved MLB yet, on either side of the ball... and go after them. Greene & Tork fit that definition. But hoping they can break out in 2023 and get off that list... Not interested in trading them. Next Question: Would another team take a chance on a comeback by Candy or Schoop and trade for them? Should we trade those guys on that basis... that another team is taking that chance? Do we ask for a guy like Kelenic back for them? Both sides would then be taking the same chance: a comeback to prior expectations. With Candy & Schoop having more track record and Kelenic/ similar having more "potential".
  4. Is Kelenic an undervalued talent/ target?
  5. I think the biggest mistake was the 2nd quarter 4th down attempt with 6 yards and 5 1/2 min's to go at midfield. I love his aggressiveness... but I think Campbell cost us 7 points on that one... Which would have made the end-of-game issues moot point.
  6. I don't think Williams is the example of this team's lack of depth. He's the tough guy who gets tough yards. Not the game-breaker. Swift is the game-breaker. And if Swift is nicked up... we turn to Craig Reynolds. Who is a nice story... but he's like the Victor Reyes of the Lions. You really don't want to see much of him at all. Maybe on a series or a couple plays to give Swift a breather as needed. Craig Reynolds is the depth problem. But, then again... it's not like every other team has two explosive game-breaking RB's and a short yardage tough guy in their RB stable. Although... I don't know why Justin Jackson didn't get the 3rd RB spot... but that's just me. I don't want to call him a gamebreaker either... but I thought he was better than Reynolds...
  7. Comical would be my word of choice.
  8. Still waiting anxiously for the Kherson breakthrough...
  9. Yeah... I wasn't counting the coaching side... but definitely Coolbaugh... unless there's some compelling reason that he is just so much more awesome than what we are seeing and... As for Candy. I keep him until we have something better. He's also a comeback candidate who, if he does come back, is a good trade candidate at the deadline. At this point, he's a 1-year stopgap (if we make the offer for next year), which gets us 1 more year to evaluate Keith. And Kreidler and Lipcius and anyone else for that matter as well... If someone pushes him out of Detroit I'm ok with that too... I just don't see it quite yet...
  10. Of course... Abrasive, Ciccarelli-type... but I haven't heard anything interesting in a year or so on him... What've ya' got here (as I go to actually check out what you've posted on him...)?
  11. If Vrana teaches Zadina how to actually get the puck into the net then that could be a big plus... We can only hope...
  12. Parker went 3 for 4 today with a HR & a double. Workman 2 for 4 with a HR. Flores pitched 4 inn's, 4 hits 1 BB 5 K's, 2 ER's...
  13. Guys that I'm most ready to move on from... right now: Barnhart, Schoop, and Miggy.
  14. Next question: If Goff plays well in 2022, does he warrant an extension? My answer: no. We've got him in 2022/23/24. He'll be 31 at the end of that contract. Not old for a QB. But he's not a strong/ accurate deep arm like Stafford. I could see his arm strength/ accuracy getting worse at age 32+ so I say no to any extension. I'm fine with the through 2024 contract... and getting a QB to develop for a year or so prior to his last year. Just my 2 cents.
  15. Aaah, you're right... I was thinking we could move on after the 2022 season but that's buying out the last two years, whatever that guaranteed amount is... Not the current contract runs out after 2022... Nix that. Not interested in a contract extension beyond 2024. Interested in getting his successor at some point... although I don't see a rush/ need to do that in next year's draft either... but if the opportunity avails itself... sure, do it.
  16. That's also why I think the team holds onto Harold, Candy, Reyes, etc... Until they get pushed out the door, they should still be on the team as placeholders, at the very least. When a better option presents itself... then you move on from these guys. Just my opinion.
  17. One person is saying what, exactly?
  18. As a 4th or 5th OF'er, sure, why not...? Actually, I can answer that too... I've lost faith in him. He's been given enough chances... I'm looking elsewhere at this point... But getting back to the "rich" comment... so you think it's "rich" that I don't believe Melendez is worth trading Greene or Tork for him? Well then kindly explain your logic on why we should trade Greene or Tork for Melendez. I'd be interested in hearing your reasoning.
  19. That looks like a Christmas lawn ornament. All the rage these days... Not certain about a Lions QB as Christmas or a very "inspiring" ornament but... Enjoy!!!
  20. In addition... I think Goff may rehabilitate his image enough this year that he could also be a part of that trade package... No, he's not Tom Brady. But given a properly built team surrounded by a good O-Line/ playmakers... he can win. So he could be traded, along with the commensurate number of 1st round picks, to get our guy... our "Stafford" (funny to type that one out...!). It would have to be the right team, but it's at least an option. If it's for a #1 draft pick or similar, to get a young QB, I'd rather keep him as a mentor though... My guess, the Lions sign him to a 3-4 year extension before mid-season... and we go from there. But... just guessing...
  21. I wasn't following the contract issue... No, I would definitely wait until the offseason to consider that. No to the draft choices/ trade. Like I said... hadn't been paying attention on contract status... I don't know... adding a 1st round QB/ CB/ DT/ LB (pick two if there are no trades) leaves me very much wanting to spend that money on Smith next year, and not a 1st round pick. We load up in the draft on other positions, and sign the best LB'er with... money. I think that would be a huge, major plus for our playoff chances... including winning in the playoffs... I would do it.
  22. Momentous date in history... Lions version.
  23. Actually... that was a game 2 post(s), not in game 1. Aaaand.... The flipside is... that we keep our ammunition (draft picks), don't trade for Smith, and try to draft/ develop our own Roquan Smith (maybe with a successful 2nd round pick next year?! ... ducks).
  24. I wanted to start this 10 days ago, after the first game... But was just a bit busy and didn't take the time. I've been watching the Lions (looking good!), but haven't taken the time to post, just been lurking in here. I want to start a regular season thread because I don't want some good ideas/ themes to get lost in the game threads... and figure this is the better type of thread for all those good ideas to be in one spot... That being said... I caught something in the Game 1 thread that caught my eye... and I wanted to open (reopen) a discussion on that as my first topic. The comments were concerning using our two 1st round picks next year on CB and DL, with a follow-up comment of "just want to get a good LB'er"... or something along those lines. So... Are we ready to revisit the Roquan Smith discussion? Is he still available? At the trade deadline? Should we make a play for him? What would be the cost? I'm thinking this is a legit discussion that should be had... especially if we win a few more games... then Holmes/ Campbell/ etal have to give this some serious thought...
