  1. And they could easily have lost to USC and Minnesota. Only one win by more than 10 points.
  2. Texas is back …but not all the way. 23-0 Georgia at the half.
  3. EDV with the ENG. 4-2 with 1:17 to go Copp also scores as it looks like will pick up another 3-goal win over Nashville
  4. Wings lead 3-2 entering final 10 minutes of the game. Copp scored the go-ahead goal.
  5. Long 6 on 4 kill required of WIngs to get to 2nd intermission ahead. Will be same carryover into 3rd period.
  6. Assuming the Guardians lose one of the next three, it will still have been a successful season for them, just like it was for the Tigers. An AL Central title, a bye into the ALDS, winning a playoff round, getting the fans excited. Something to build on. Like the Tigers, they will have some work this offseason to add a roster with 5 more wins.
  7. I feel a bit funny posting this because I don’t like the Guardians at all and in fact am jealous of what could have been if the Tigers had won game 4 or 5, but the Spanish-language calls of the Noel and Fry homers are a hoot. It really was a great game.
  8. Great question. I like the way you think.
  9. I think it says we tend to overestimate the likelihood of prospects turning out at the high end of their predicted level. Including our current prospect pool. We will get a few hits, but it may be just getting a Mantha + Nyquist + Hronek.
  10. And they arguably had a rosier outlook in 2014 than they do today. 24 year old Nyquist was coming off a 48 pts in 57 games season. 22 year old Tatar had scored 19 goals in 2014. 23 year old DeKeyser was considered a significant get. 21 year old Riley Sheehan had made the team and played 41 games in 2014. Helm was only 26. Brendan Smith was 24 and there was still some hope for him. Jurco was 20 and had played 36 NHL games in the 2024 season Sproul, Marchenko and Oulett were a wave of well thought of defense prospects all either 20 or 21 in net, Howard was 29 and in his prime , Kronwall and Zetterberg were 32 so had a few years left in them. Mantha, Larkin, Bertuzzi and Mrazek had all been drafted already https://thehockeynews.com/nhl/detroit-red-wings/latest-news/from-the-archive-comparing-the-red-wings-prospect-pool-10-years-ago-to-now
  11. Except for Cossa being drafted, the Wings’ goaltending situation is no better than it was 5 years ago (Howard 34 y.o, Bernier 30 y.o). Filler like Lyon (31 y.o) and Talbot (37 y.o) could have been signed by any GM anytime Seider is the only proven improvement to the Wings’ defense. Edvinsson looks promising - could be as good as the 21 y.o. Hronek that Yzerman inherited. But filler like Maata, Chiarot, Holl and Gustaffson could have been signed by any GM anytime.
  12. 8 years and counting. Starting their 6th season under Yzerman’s direction.
  13. 3 goals in 3:36 midway through 2nd for the Rangers and it is now 5-1 late in 2nd. The heat will be on.
  14. Stanton makes it back to back. A Clase meltdown.
  15. Blown save for Clase. A 2-run, 2-out line drive homer by Judge in the 8th inning ties the game 3-3.
  16. And given the 5-pitch inning and the fact the Tigers had closed to within 5-3, I wonder why Skubal only went 6 innings at 84 pitches. I was counting on him shutting the door in the 7th and possibly 8th as I felt the Tigers had a decent chance of scoring a couple of runs.
  17. Just as rough tonight. Could be a quick series. Guadians dropped a mile high infield pop up in the first inning, Bibee was pulled in the 2nd, Judge homered off of Gaddis. Maybe the cream is rising to the top.
