  1. It was nice seeing some competent baseball in the summer of 2021 but looking back that may have been the worst thing for the organization. It assured that Avila was back and got to handle another draft and made them think they were close which led to them signing guys like Javy. Not to mention the 2022 draft class had some intriguing names at the top that were far superior prospects to Jung.
  2. His track record is short but it sure is hard to argue the turnaround Holmes has made with the team in just 2 years. And it's not like he inherited a ton of young players that just blossomed which is why they have improved, nor did he inherent a young stud qb. Nope, outside of some oline pieces he has basically built the team from the ground up while still having plus draft capital and being in great financial shape for the foreseeable future. Just remarkable stuff.
  3. I don't think he's a Suh level prospect but I think he's like a Quinnen Williams level and he has turned out to be a game changer. Carter's been the best defender for two years now on one of the most dominant defenses in recent CFB memory.
  4. Luke Kennard, a heavily protected 1st and an extension due Saddiq Bey isn't exactly the type of capital you're going to get studs with.
  5. There's definitely concerns with Carter but I think there are concerns with all the guys were likely to pick there its just that Carter's are off the field/work ethic vs. On the field with other guys. I feel or atleast hope with Carter at the very least we will get stretches of dominant play that transforms the defense. You are likely going to get stretches where he disappears but I think the dominant ones can more than offset that. Also I feel he is the guy outside of Anderson and maybe Bijan that can step in right away and make the biggest impact which given where we are positioned in the division and conference may be what I care about most.
  6. Its basically a foregone conclusion unless you get really lucky like the Nats did with Scherzer you are not going to get your ROI on big money FA deals, particularly at the end. You sign them on hopes that the first half of it they will help take you to the next level, having to live with an albatross for the last 3 years is ok if the player helped you win multiple divisions and make or win the World Series. On a side note its funny we had about a half dozen players we could've given big money deals in 2013-15 but the two we didn't in Scherzer and JD ended up being two of the rare players to end up being worth their FA contracts, meanwhile the guys we signed ended up being disasters whether they were our own players or outside guys. I guess Verlander ended up being fine but most of that was due to what he did in Houston, while he was here he really was only elite for the 2016 season under the extension which is why we had to eat a third of the contract when we traded him.(btw how did that trade work out, I can't remember?)
  7. The called 3rd strike to Schoop late in the game and called 1st strike to Bichette in the first inning were two of the lowest called strikes Ive seen in awhile. If the TV k zone is to be believed they basically looked like they were damn near a foot below the zone.
  8. Encouraging outing from Turnbull, got some whiffs and held a strong Blue Jays offense in check.
  9. Just imagine that happening late in a perfect game!
  10. Tailor made DP only for it to ricochet off an ump, only the Tigers.
  11. He did take him up the tunnel to talk to him, didn't do it right in the dugout for all to see. Perhaps Javy said or did something during their chat that led to the benching and not just the baserunning gaffe.
  12. Javy benched, good to see some repercussions for a mental error like that.
  13. There's a mock out on The Athletic where it has us trading down to 11 with Tennessee for a 3rd this year and next year. I don't know if that would be fair according to the draft charts but assuming we won't draft Carter I think I'd do that even if on paper the return seems a little light. I feel we're going to get the same caliber of player at 11 as we would as 6 so might as well pick up 2 extra 3rds as well.
  14. The only advantage of Hooker in round 1 is the 5th year option but agree no way do I want the Lions taking him there or anywhere for that matter just cause I personally don't believe in him. But if I was a team that did they may be better off getting him in the 1st.
  15. In Javy's defense I don't think he's been on 2nd base all season, probably doesn't know what to do there.
  16. Nevin draw a walk in his first AB but then Greene and Carpenter follow it by striking out on 6 pitches.
  17. No lie, when I was like 5 years old we had a couple Jays in my back yard and my Grandpa warned me about them as he was attacked as a kid. That stuck with me my whole life and was always trepid around them. Of course I rarely see them anymore but they were everywhere in my childhood home.
  18. My biggest qualms isn't so much what Harris did or didn't do it just goes back to how crappy our system is. I mean we should have atleast a couple arms somewhere in the system that can be major league caliber relievers with major league caliber stuff. You shouldn't have to rely on guys like Jose Cisnero and Trey Wingenter.
  19. I know the Rays schedule has been easy but still not only starting 13-0 but winning by the margins they have is absolutely remarkable, they are outscoring teams by almost 6 runs a game! That may literally be unheard of in MLB history for a 13-0 stretch.
  20. A couple sources confirmed it but still don't know if it was 100% true but just imagine how different things would've been if OKC and Detroit did go through with that 6 and SGA for #1 overall trade prior to the 2021 draft? I was against that trade at the time cause I was of the belief that SGA while being talented was putting up empty stats on a bad team and I questioned whether he would be the type of player that would excel on good teams or make the guys around him better. Also of course thought so highly of Cade and thought he had the potential to be the type of superstar that we weren't going to have the chance to acquire any time soon. From our perspective I question if SGA would've continued to develop here like he has and I definitely question whether Weaver would've taken Giddey at 6, to me I think Kuminga probably would've been the guy so for our sake I'm not sure how much better we would look as a franchise but OKC would look drastically different.
  21. Feldman brings up some good points about the usual loaded SEC juggernauts and OSU having to replace some key players but those teams always reload, they're chalked full of 5 star recruits just ready to step in and play so the team doesn't miss a beat. They probably would've gotten steamrolled by UGA anyway but last year was probably their best chance to win a CFP game, not that TCU was a bad team but by CFP standards you are unlikely to get an easier matchup. It's too bad UM came out of the gates slow and JJ's mistakes were of the catastrophic variety.
  22. One of the biggest problem with the Tigers lineup aside from the fact that they suck is that there really isn't any strong points to it or any sorta identity. Like it's not like they have a bunch of thumpers with low OBPs so you can play for the multi run HR, or a bunch of OBP guys where you can just work starting pitchers and try to keep the line moving or even speed guys where you can take the extra base, steal bases and just wreak havoc on them. Nope they have a bunch of players that don't really have any standout skills.
  23. Yeah the age thing isn't that big of a deterrent for me, I of course would rather him be 22 but IF they feel he can be a quality QB in this league then his age shouldn't stop you from drafting him for the reasons Rampage suggests.
  24. Alex Avila and James McCann as well. The latter came with the White Sox of course.
  25. I'm just meh on Wilson, I can see the physical gifts which makes you dream of the type of ceiling he can have but how often do those guys really end up hitting the ceiling that you dream of that didn't produce great numbers(relatively speaking) in college? Genuine question, perhaps it happens more often than Im thinking of but it feels like the guys you draft based off their physical traits instead of production generally don't work out like you hoped.
