That's the conundrum, even though I say Id rather not take a db if the draft falls where there is no Anderson or Carter I don't necessarily have a better choice. Perhaps Bijan and then get somebody like Porter at 18.

Iirc Singer was still mocked to go 1 by alot of people up until around SEC tourney time when Mize was dominating and Singer was losing velo and getting hit around. I vaguely remember some of the pundits even being surprised that KC took him as high as they did as they thought something serious was wrong with him. -
I love Witherspoon but given the depth at the position I agree that Id avoid CB at 6.

McShays final mock has us with Anderson and Kancey. I could definitely live with that. He has the 4 qbs and Wilson(texans) going in the top 5. I'm skeptical of that happening but certainly not out of the realm of possibility.

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
RandyMarsh replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
If ERod continues to pitch the way he has he's going to opt out and all we will get is a comp pick so if we can get a prospect(s) better than that you might as well do that, assuming of course we aren't in playoff contention. -
Yeah I think he has more upside as a receiver than Hock but I still would be disappointed. Ftr I don't see it happening, even in Mels write he just says something like Witherspoon replacing Okudah and Mayer replacing Hock. Its just lazily replacing the two positions we traded away with who he has as the best ones there. I do think Witherspoon is the most likely option though if nobody unexpected drops but I think it has very little to do with them trading Okudah away.

Kipers final mock has us taking Witherspoon and Mayer. I like both as prospects but boy that would be about the most unexciting and "chalk" selections as we could end up with. That's not to say in the end it wouldn't end up paying off but at first I would come away a little disappointed.

Like Holmes said it's alot easier getting worse at qb than it is to upgrade there. I'm of the opinion once you have a top 10 guy you do what it takes to keep him even if it means overpaying a bit for him. Everybody loves the thought of finding the next Mahomes but as a franchise you can chase that for a lifetime and not find that.
-
That's true, it's pretty much a given they will go to break right before the Lions pick only for them to return seconds before the announcement. Also you're pretty much guaranteed that they will spend 5 minutes after you pick interviewing a previous selection so they never get to break down your selection.
-
I don't know where I heard it or for what team for that matter but I swear I was watching a game this past year and the announcers brought up how the team did indeed use a WR or RB as the scout team qb to prepare the defense for the mobile qb they were facing.
-
The last couple years ESPN has been good about not spoiling the picks by showing the players smiling on their phones talking to the team picking them, I hope that is the case again this year. Which also reminds me to stay off twitter atleast around the Lions pick cause I just love the suspense of finding out who they are picking right when Goodell makes the announcement.

I'm not concerned at all with the cap hit. I mean we have like what 25 million in cap space right now despite Goff's current 30 million dollar hit. Even if he were to jump to the mid to upper 40s we still would be comfortably below the cap. And yeah I know we have some guys lined up to get paid but we also have a few drafts before that happens to find cheaper in house replacements along with some higher priced guys likely coming off the books by then to help offset the raises. Bottom line with the way teams can manipulate the cap the Lions should have no problem fielding a great team around him if/when they sign him to a big extension.
-
Very few QBs in history can do it on their own, even Mahomes looked ordinary a couple Super Bowls ago when he played without 2 Oline Starters.
-
I have been on record of wanting to trade up not down bc of the reasons mentioned and I agree that in general you probably aren't best served to trade down but there are outlying situations and I think this would be one of those.
-
This is a fair point but to me Draymonds actions and behavior are what drive his face being punchable where as for Trae his actions only add to it. For example I remember watching the 2018 NBA draft and knowing very little about Young but as soon as they interviewed him I thought to myself"damn I want to hit that dude", it atleast took Draymond some time to get to that level for me atleast.
-
Wow that is a surprise. Given his hype I think it's fair to say at this point he has been a disappointment.
-
To me with the guys they had off the board there is virtually no difference in talent between 6 and 11 so if I can get 2 2nds for that Id do it like I said in a heartbeat, in my eyes you'd basically just be giving me 2 free 2nd rounders. Now if there was a guy(s) who I thought was clearly ahead of the pack and wouldn't want to risk losing him then no I wouldn't risk that for 2 2nd round picks but in this instance I don't feel that is the case. Also got to keep in mind that yeah 2nd rounders are risky but NFL teams still covet them, All Pros have been traded for less so if you can stockpile extra capital you can do alot with that aside from making that particular selection.

Not a hint of irony here I love seeing McKinstrey, Maton, Carpenter, Vierling and Baddoo all in the lineup on the same day. We may still get shutout or something but I rather see them than Cabrera, Schoop Haase etc. -
Credit for Trae Young for carrying the Hawks offensively down the stretch and making that 3 to stave off elimination but damn if I said it once I said it a thousand times there is nobody in the NBA or perhaps even sports for that matter that has a more punchable face and mannerisms to me than Trae. I could only imagine how much more annoying I would find him if the Pistons were actually in a playoff series or rivals with the Hawks.

An honest football question for you............
RandyMarsh replied to Motor City Sonics's topic in Detroit Lions
Belichick went 11-5 with Matt Cassell, 6-0 with Jimmy G and won 10 games with a rookie Mac Jones. Would he have won as many championships as he did without Brady? Probably not but the dude can coach and has proven he can win games with other QBs at the helm. -

Id much rather trade up as well assuming the cost isn't outrageous. Depth is always important in the NFL which is why you always want as many picks as possible but I think we're at the point this year where we are probably better served with quality instead of quantity.
-
It would be nice to pickup another 1st for next year but my trepidation with that trade is just the general consensus of this draft. Maybe Holmes's board is different than all the national guys but assuming it isn't if you go by the national board you would essentially be trading back to the 2nd round with that Minny trade cause I have yet to find one that has more than 20 players with 1st round grades.
-
Id take Tennessee or Houston's deal in a heartbeat. Minny would need to pony up more for me to trade back that far cause given this draft you're unlikely to get a true first round talent picking at 23.
-
This. To me the stuff you mentioned is the most important qb attribute(s) along with accuracy of course. If you have that ability chances are youre going to be a great qb unless your arm is a total noodle like Brees was at the very end of his career. Hell and even then when he couldn't throw it 30 yards he was still better than many of the physically gifted qbs that had no other skills.
