Week Four: Seattle Seahawks (3-0) @ Detroit Lions (2-1)

Safe to say TP didn't write this article. Has Chiefs with Reid and Spagnolia along with Ben Johnson and Aaron Glenn as the 2 best coordinating duos in the NFL. https://www.cbssports.com/nfl/news/top-10-offensive-and-defensive-play-caller-duos-chiefs-lions-at-the-top-lots-of-shanahan-mcvay-tree-coaches/ -

Imagine being off the grid for 2 months, you come back and ask your friends/family what their plans are for the weekend and they respond with "Got tickets to the Tigers playoff game". -

I'll never forget when Ibanez was first called up, he started off hot but then quickly had like a 2 week slump where I think he was like 0 for 30 or something like that. I remember commenting something like "Ibanez is going to be somebody in 10-20 years who you answer with when asked to name 'Random Tigers from the past'" Essentially saying nobody is going to remember him, well now after that hit he will likely be remembered by every Tiger fan for the rest of their lives. -

I don't think Foley was necessarily bad today but his lack of swing and miss came back to haunt him today. He gave up what would've been a pretty lazy flyball in Comerica Park to Alvarez(89mph off the bat) which turned into a double in Houston. Then an infield single and weak ground ball single. When you allow balls to be put in play as often as Foley does(by today's standards atleast) you are going to run into some outings where the BABIP Gods aren't on your side and unfortunately today's game may have been one of them. Fortunately the Tigers had the 3 run lead and we're able to survive but can't say I'd want to see him in there in a high pressure 1 or 2 run game. -

I just read that this was the Astros 98th postseason game since 2017. I guess with all the extra teams being added that leads to more possible games each year but I still found that number pretty wild. -

Yeah I couldn't remember if there were any rule changes for playoff baseball or if you were able to get around that 3 batter minimum if you pitched into the next inning. -

Would Holton have been mandated to stay in for atleast another batter if he started the 9th? That's the only explanation I can think of for Hinch not atleast having him face Alvarez. Oh well didn't end up mattering in the end but curious minds like me still would like to know. -

Can't help but think back to game 2 of the 2006 ALDS in Yankee Stadium. At the time I personally had never witnessed a playoff victory before(was alive in 84 but only 3 years old so don't remember it) and those last 3 outs from Jones felt like an eternity. Today we weren't looking at a 20 some year drought like then but still 11 years is a long time and like Jones in Yankee Stadium those last 3 outs just felt like forever. -

I guess it depends on your kicker and/or short yardage personnel. But in general the thought process is that you will be attempting the 2pt conversion the next 2 TDs(assuming you don't get it the first time) and the numbers say that you have just as good of chance of converting the 2pt conversion 1 of the 2 times as you do successfully kicking the extra point twice. -

Geno is the exact type of QB that we will struggle with, he is mobile enough in the pocket to avoid a single rusher and is also highly accurate. He doesn't have the Mahomes or Allen type howitzer on him nor the Lamar Jackson physical tools on the ground which prevents him from being elite but in a controlled environment playing against a young secondary his accuracy will always pose problems for a defense. For all the talk about the Lions defense not adjusting, how about the Seahawks defense? This is the third year in a row that the Lions shredded them and they made coaching changes in the offseason and it didn't matter when it came to stopping us. Sometimes you just go up against an opponent and QB that is just a matchup nightmare for you and the Seahawks and Geno could very well be that for the Lions just like Goff and the Lions are that for the Seahawks D. -

I noticed in the box score that if you include ARSB's TD throw the Lions passing game as a whole earned the fabled perfect QB Rating. -

I'm still an Arnold believer but they have to do something with him during the bye week to try to clean things up. Granted some of the calls he has gotten this year have been a little ticky tack but it's obvious the refs are watching our DBs closely, hell I think Davis was called for more penalties in just this game than he was his last 2 years in TB combined. -

Don't agree with the toss sweep on 3rd and short. Just hand it off and run up the middle. -

Anzalone with another big missed tackle. He's been pretty bad this year aside from the early goings of the Rams game. -

It took Stafford 10 years to develop the touch St. Brown put on that throw. -

Great effort there on that TD run by Monty, could've easily been a tackle for a loss. And Bates almost misses another PA. -
2024 DETROIT TIGERS POST SEASON THREAD

Ironic that Kay is doing a Skubal start when 2 years ago he went off on the Yankees for getting shutout by this "nobody" in Tarik Skubal. He caught a lot of heat for that on social media cause while Skubal wasn't proven yet in the majors he was arguably the top left handed pitching prospect in baseball a year or 2 prior. If that would've been a Yankee he would've been looked as a big deal just based off his prospect pedigree and not a "nobody". -
Yeah would've liked to have a night game but given our lack of national star power I kinda figured we'd be one of the matinee games.

To me Arnold has looked much better than Okudah ever did. Yeah he is handsy and definitely needs to work on that but he consistently is in position to make plays but unfortunately for him just hasn't made them enough. But the fact that he isn't getting ran off screen like previous DBs we had is a positive as far as I'm concerned. You figure sooner or later he will adjust to the NFL game and/or start getting the benefit of the whistle, and if that happens I think he will end up being a good one. -
The Twins collapse was epic! They can't even blame missing the playoffs on the Tigers going on an unreal run cause even without us they'd still probably would've lost out to Seattle due to the choke job.

One of the more promising things about this is that this run wasn't necessarily just some arbitrary thing that happened without reason, there actually is some on field differences to explain it like getting Meadows and Carpenter back. Losing Baez and adding Sweeney, Keith getting better especially defensively and Tork returning and playing better.

The one benefit of playing Houston is that we wouldn't have to worry about any weather delays(barring something like Katrina or Harvey happening).
