I wonder how the NFL decides who gets the afternoon game and who gets the night game for the Championship Game? I always assumed that they would just put what they thought the better matchup would be last but I'm guessing that isn't the case since they announced the schedule yesterday before any of the teams played today. Maybe the respective networks just alternate every year and this was the year Fox so in turn the NFC got the night game?

I know it's kind of a loser mentality but that was one of the reasons why I was pulling for the 49ers. We may have had an easier time playing the Pack at home vs. the 49ers on the road but the pessimist in me was thinking about that I absolutely under no circumstances wanted to lose to the Pack and see them in the SB. Losing to the 49ers would still be upsetting but not like losing to a Packers team who finished 3 games worse than us and for the most part have been mediocre all season. To see THEM be the ones to spoil our dream season and make the Super Bowl would just make me sick.

Looking at some twitter posts about the situation and I guess it's one of those "unwritten rules" or codes that if you don't use the timeout on 1st down that is to tell your opponent that you aren't going to use it so they can just take the next 2 kneel downs quickly instead of milking the entire play clock. Assuming that's true that makes sense why the Lions snapped it so quickly and that Bowles didn't use it at the end. You can argue if it would've been worth it but if it is an unwritten code from coaches you probably don't want to be the one to break it......especially against a guy the size of Dan Campbell.lol

I remember when Cincy made the SB a couple years ago the Mayor actually made the following Monday a City Holiday and cancelled schools and everything else. I wonder if Detroit or any surrounding suburbs would do the same if the Lions win next week? I know I'll be putting in for a Personal Day regardless for that day if we end up winning.

I thought there would've been like 38 seconds left at the start of 4th down if they called a TO? In that case a Lions miss would've given TB the ball at like the 30 yard line with roughly 30 seconds left. If the Lions instead decided to do a pooch punt then potentially 80 or 90 yards with 30 seconds left. The latter is extremely unlikely but the first scenario wouldn't be impossible, I've seen it done many times before.

Me too, like I said I thought it was a mistake on the graphics part or something cause if they did have a TO it didn't make sense to 1 not use it and for two the Lions to snap it so fast. That makes me thinking the Lions didn't think they had one cause they snapped it with 14 seconds left on the play clock on 2nd down and like 10 or so on 3rd down.

Wait TB actually did have a TO left when the Lions took that last knee? I thought it was just a mistake on the graphic but during the presser a reporter asked Bowles why he didn't use it and he said something to the extent of "They were already in FG so it would've been a 2 score game with under 30 seconds left" WHAT?!?!? I would be so pissed if I was a Bucs fan right now if my coach just threw in the towel with potential time left in the game. Yes it would've taken a miracle but a .01% chance of winning is better than your season being over.

I don't blame Dan for not challenging it, yeah if the Lions replay guys got a slo mo look at it before the snap than sure but they likely didn't. Watching live it didn't appear obvious enough to throw the flag considering either way you were looking at forcing them in a 3rd and long. Timeouts are just too valuable in games like this to risk on a play like that.

The 2nd and 3rd down calls were terrible but ultimately we get the TD. I just HATE HATE HATE throwing from the 2 yard line when you have a good running game. It's usually a low percentage pass due to the condensed field and too many bad things can happen like a sack, holding penalty or interception. Running the ball bad things can happen like fumbles and the aforementioned holding but much less likely to happen than passing.

Disastrous turn of events, looked like we were driving to at the very least milk the clock and potentially have a 10 pt lead heading into the half time if we make the FG, then the call gets rightfully reversed and now we're forced to punt and potentially head into halftime tied. AND we lose our starting center which probably is even more important.
