  1. I understand. I’m not suggesting they scheduled it for this reason, but I’m sure they’ve embraced it as one of the few positive PR opportunities available. I’m also cynical, so take it for what it’s worth.
  2. While the jury is still out, I think the Lions might have done that successfully getting Brad Holmes from the Rams. Of course, thru also thought they were getting that when they hired Dan Quinn from the Pats.
  3. Not to take anything away from Lou’s ceremony (very deserving), but this reminds me of 2003 when the Tigers tried to use ‘84 nostalgia to deflect from the on-field dumpster fire. Deja vu all over again.
  4. Cut to Shep drying his eyes during Lou ceremony. Bally Sports is awful.
  5. Very conspicuous that neither Ilitch nor Avila were introduced. Clearly to avoid being booed mercilessly. They are on the stage but have had no role.
  6. Playing games with hiding him on the roster defeats the purpose. Either you DFA him or you make him a part of the team in some regard. I vote for the latter, but in a reduced playing time scenario. Let him retire as planned—we’ve gone this long, why sully the relationship at this point? He retires as a Tiger on his own terms. We have enough versatile position players, that we can carry a part-time DH.
  7. We’re losing our best hitter?
  8. it will be interesting to see where everyone plays and how often. We already have Santana and Sequera at 2B/SS. Wonder if Graham will see time at 3B and OF?
  9. Olson has taken steps back, so I wouldn’t put him in with the other two, but agree with your general point. Hurter looking good, too.
  10. Probably just style or personality, but Dan might be more a product of our times. Subtlety is certainly not in vogue these days.
  11. Might be out of necessity at the rate we’re going through our young pitching.
  12. Big deal—I want to know what his record was in “Pick the Stick”
  13. Tork, Keith and Jung reflect this. Maybe Greene, too. honestly, this was the only reason I was bullish on Paredes for so long.
  14. I think it coincides with our recent draftees starting to get into games this weekend.
  15. Joel Zumaya
  16. I just hope one of our new Fettery Tickets pan out.
  17. I wonder if Fetter tried to recruit this cat to Michigan, too.
  18. How we doing? Avila working on his, “we made a lot of calls, but couldn’t find a fit that we thought was going to make us a better team” talking points?
  19. that was more of a general comment, not specific to Marsh. Agree, he's a bad fit--K's over 30%, too. Our issue is that we can't be sellers because our only tradable assets are relievers, which we're seeing over the last few days, are a commodity in the league. We can't be buyers because we don't have the prospect capital that others teams do (which is criminal given where we've drafted the last few years). Even if we wanted to flip our recent 1st rounders, how much value would Mize, Tork and Jobe have?
  20. why can't we have nice things?!?
  21. Still a lot of time left, and teams always need more bullpen pieces. However, the closer we get to the deadline, the less leverage we have trying to get any value for Fulmer. We’re not privy, but you have to wonder if Avila gets too aggressive with his ask, that teams just look elsewhere.
  22. Maybe the Yankees, too?
  23. Sounds like the draftees (position players) will get assignments this weekend. Will be interesting with all of the middle infielders—wonder if they’ll challenge Pacheco at WM? I don’t think Santana or Sequera look ready yet.
  24. Al really is in a no-win situation. One that he put himself in.
