I suspect he’s done for this season, but they’ll likely bring him back next season to see if he can pull a Frank Tanana/Kenny Rogers season.

Not even close. I was making the case for preferring to face Houston. I think Burnes might be the second best starting pitcher in the AL, and he has owned us this season. Neither matchup will be easy. I do think we can beat either, though. We’re playing with house money, so there is no downside to this postseason.

I think part of Dombrowski’s lack of success drafting impact players was our typical draft position—we had a good record for many of his seasons. A couple of hits along the way, including Verlander, Porcello and Castellanos (the latter two fell to us prior to the current draft pool being established). He was also masterful at trading his prospect capital for established players that played important roles. Player development didn’t seem to be a strength or area he leaned into. But hard to argue with the results.

I disagree. He purposely tried to manipulate the Tigers chances of winning. The honorable thing is to have the guy pitch when he’s supposed to. Would be different if they were playing for something, which they aren’t. Moot point now, but I thought it was bush.

Looks about right. I think they can reset after every round, so you basically want to optimize for a 3 game series. 12 pitchers seems right for 3 games.

The players get a nice payday, but not sure when that kicks in. For a bunch of young guys making close to the MLB minimum, it could be a windfall.
