If it plays out that we end up getting a Comp pick for a Skubal exit, the poor player that gets selected will be unfairly scrutinized by podcasters, local radio personalities and casual fans.

I would prefer not to burn a pick to sign a guy for one season or allow for an early opt-out, but would be worth it to get a good starter committed for a few seasons. Especially since we could lose Skubal, Mize and Flaherty after next season.

What evidence do you have that he doesn’t care about the current team? Really bad take. And he’s not trading Skubal at the deadline if the team is in contention—if they were committed to extracting value for him, they’d do it now when he is most attractive in trade.

Denny McLain should never be in the position of questioning anyone’s motives.

He was a deserving All-Star based on his first half. Still think he can be a solid #3, with #2 upside. Just needs to stay healthy for an entire season.

Btw, I like the Mets offseason so far. Peralta, Semien, Polanco, Robert Jr. will be interesting to see how this comes together. And they still have the prospect capital if they wanted to make a push for Skubal now or at the deadline.

I don’t buy the logic that because Whitaker isn’t in then Kent doesn’t belong either. Kent is a clear cut HOF on his own merit. Whitaker should be in, too, but the veterans committee have an attitude towards him. I suspect they care very little for WAR and probably view it with disdain. Lou was a bit squirrelly during his playing days and that probably rubbed his fellow players the wrong way. Hopefully this will be righted eventually.

any Ty Madden news? Would be nice to get any contribution from him this season.

The Mets are so obvious a destination for Skubal. They need starting pitching and are trying to win in ‘26. Whether Tarik makes $19 of $32 won’t matter to them. While before I was ambivalent about a Skubal trade, I now believe it’s essential. Between the arbitration drama and salaries given to Tucker and Bichette, I don’t see a scenario where he stays. A Skubal trade doesn’t need to be a punt on the season. Just requires some creativity on behalf of Harris.
