  1. true. i wont shoot myself. for all of your sakes.
  2. if the lions trade up into the top 10 for a running back i will shoot myself.
  3. dont pair him with a very low energy tony dungy.
  4. that's quite the low bar to clear. but yes, i think sheila has so far proven to be a good owner. i like her. my only gripe is she didnt fire quintricia immediately, but thats understandable from a first time owner.
  5. hire mercenaries and they will quickly move on to the next payday.
  6. a mobile qb would add a really interesting dimension to the lions running game.
  7. on the possibility of the lions drafting richardson: Diante Lee: The Detroit deal comes with the highest upside, and I feel drawn in that direction. First-round quarterbacks are lottery tickets, and for all my appreciation of Stroud’s and Young’s consistency, poise and playmaking in high-leverage situations, there’s something to Richardson that I just can’t quit. His delivery and timing need work (who better to learn from than Jared Goff on that front?), but his pocket navigation and feel for the game are much further ahead than I remembered in my cursory watches of his 2022 film. There won’t be an NFL throw that he can’t make, and the issues he can create with his legs as a fast and physical runner would fit perfectly into Detroit’s smash-mouth offensive philosophy. Nick Baumgardner I was a bit surprised to see so many Lions fans throw heat at Dane for linking their team to Richardson. Most of those complaints seemed centered on Detroit trading up a few spots to make that pick and the price paid (a first-rounder and second-rounder). We’ll have to see what the board says about Richardson’s value, but I understand why Dane made the move. As Nate mentioned, Detroit’s situation — a stable veteran starter in Goff and a confident head coach who loves to run the ball in Dan Campbell — would be perfect for Richardson. And his skill set would be perfect for Detroit’s offense if the development happens.
  8. pronman - after listing wallinder in the 100s of top prospects - lists him and mazur in his column today on fast rising prospects. William Wallinder, LHD, Detroit Wallinder has been excellent in the SHL this season, as the 20-year-old has been one of the top players for Rogle. As a 6-foot-4 defenseman who can skate quite well for his size and is showing a lot of offense this season, you can one day envision Wallinder in an NHL top four. His defending and physicality could use some improvement, but he’s not deficient as a defender. The tools he has distinguish him as a pro prospect, especially with the level of skill and playmaking he’s showing right now. Carter Mazur, RW, Detroit Mazur’s significant upward trend of development over the last few years has carried into this season, where he’s been one of the very best players in college hockey. His skating and compete level have always been positives in his game, but the level of offense he’s showing right now is quite significant compared to a few seasons ago. Mazur can shoot the puck, has good hands and offensive sense to go with his speed and direct style of play. He’s looking like someone who could be a top six winger in the NHL one day.
  9. he played kapernick afterwards because he was a dynamic running qb. remember the packers game where he lit them up? example of a great coach using the skills of a qb to better the team. i think its a perfectly fine example to use. ymmv.
  10. they didnt have a winning season for five years because they fired jim harbaugh, not because they traded alex smith. and i'll take five losing seasons if i get a super bowl out of it. again, im not even advocating they take richardson or any qb. i trust holmes' decision making. but if they did, i imagine it would be because they thought he had the chance to be a great qb. and im ok with them using #18 or a second rounder on a chance like that at qb.
  11. i think those are all good points.
  12. how much value does rodgers or goff have right now? that's the other alternative, build up the youngster and then trade the veteran. like the niners did with smith.
  13. jared goff playing well last year is great news on many fronts for the lions. they no longer HAVE to take the qb of the future this year, but they still can if they want to. its good to have options.
  14. maybe. but if the draft is deep at cb, they should probably take a talent at another position too.
  15. in 2011 alex smith (at age 27, one year younger than jared goff is now) broke out under his new head coach jim harbaugh. that team had a rookie qb on it named colin kapernick. the next year alex smith was lights out - in fact, he had a better qbr and total qb rate than jared goff's best season - but harbaugh benched him in favor of this kapernick kid. they went to the super bowl. that offseason they traded smith to the chiefs for two second round picks. meanwhile, kapernick led them back to the nfc championship game. i'll take that from anthony richardson. that says two things to me: 1) talented qbs sometimes need good systems and structures to play well, and 2) there are plenty of ways to build a roster in the nfl. if the lions think richardson is an elite talent they can develop, they should draft him.
  16. then you have a great problem to work out and lots of trade bait with which to solve it.
  17. i love 84lives' lists! the hardest choice on those lists is whether casey mize or tarik skubal is going to win more cy young awards.
  18. yeah, but then the list will say how beau burrows and alex faedo and joey wentz are all in the star tier! rather than the "middle relief if were lucky" tier.
  19. that's fair.
  20. i'm not convinced about goff. but i did enjoy him playing a very well for much of last season. fwiw, i dont think they will draft a qb high this year. i think they believe in goff as a player and a leader.
  21. i dont think much of prospect lists anymore. i enjoy reading about prospects (which is certainly why they make the lists), but after years of seeing guys on such lists be total busts, im not convinced they mean anything. i remember chris illitch crowing about all our prospects because they were on some lists. what did that get us? nothing. im looking forward to the new crew and hope they can develop talent better than the old crew. that's all we can hope for now. lists schmists.
  22. thank goodness we tanked.
  23. if the lions think they can develop richardson (or levis...or hooker) into a top qb in 3 years they should draft one of them.
  24. any football player that isnt tom brady or a player who has earned generational money should NEVER take a discount to play anywhere. football players' careers are so short, they should get all the money they can as quick as they can get it. because it is over very soon for 90% of them.
  25. berggren at 91 is kind of silly seeing as where he placed the other wings prospects.
