  1. Under the current system, really is no benefit to starting a player who is ready and has ROY potential in the minors. They have less to lose organizationally by starting Mize who has an option and doesn’t qualify for the potential compensation in Toledo than they do Jobe. If Jobe struggles, they can send him down and are in the same position as they would be starting in the minors.
  2. There is something to lose and that is potential draft picks. If Jobe is ready, I think either they go with a 6 man rotation (with Skubal staying on 5 days)or Jobe starts in relief/piggy back starts to limit his innings. The Pirates lost 1 draft pick already and may lose a 2nd by starting Skenes in the minors and he still got a full year service by being top 3 in ROY. I don’t see the Tigers doing that with Jobe the way he’s been pitching.
  3. That's what I liked about the book, it seemed fairly balanced. He definitely wasn't the nicest guy, but he wasn't what the narrative since 1963 has been either.
  4. I’ll be at tomorrow’s game. Our development gets a luxury box (this year 2) for an Orioles spring training game each year and this year it’s tomorrow. We were going to go anyway so this is a bonus-even if my wife son and I may be the only Tiger fans of the group. Weather looks like it should be good-11 pct chance of rain at 1.
  5. ESPN also wanted out as MLB wouldn’t agree to a reduction in $ ESPN had agreed to in the original deal.
  6. In the article he talks about modeling his game after Gausman. He needs to be able to throw the fastball down (as well as up) to get hitters to swing at the split. He also talked about how driveline worked on his slider so he now has 3 versions of it. And what counts it was more effective. All of the modifications with the intention of inducing more whiffs.
  7. But he’s ok with Cora who by all reports was more directly involved in supporting it than Hinch?
  8. Bregman to Red Sox. 3 yrs $120 mil with opt outs after years 1 and 2. Short term, but $40 mil/yr - much higher AAV than I imagined he’d get even on a shorter deal.
  9. It’s the only way it makes sense that they have been considered a real possibility and made him their priority as has been reported from the beginning. And IMO it’s a higher offer than 6/156 or he would have taken Houston’s offer. There had to be a better offer on the table at the time, and I believe it was ours.
  10. Yeah I never once heard any suggestion of Torres to first. The Tigers already had plans in place for 1st anyway with Keith and Malloy getting reps as well as Tork. Now it has been said he refused to play 3rd last year, which I wish he’d be open to if they don’t sign Bregman, but they were ok with giving him 2nd either way.
  11. Helped Miami and Golden State, got us a free pick and since they were both minimum contracts (that can be exempted) kept all of our cap flexibility for today.
  12. If it is to be believed that the Tigers have been in it and made him a top priority, there is no question in my mind that they have had an offer at least as good as the 6/156. Otherwise, they would have been out of it from the start as he clearly would have taken the Houston original offer if that was the best one on the table at the time.
  13. Or if we need the $ to sign Beasley
  14. Stein says we’re taking him into our room exemption, which according to what Del said earlier, we have to use our $14 mil cap space first?
  15. Could it be the $20 mil option if he gets 15 starts is actually 19.75 mil (or 19.99mil) to stay under 80%? (Or this year is $25,000,001?)
  16. I think Sawyer’s pash rush is much better than that suggests. If they go DE at 28, he’s the guy I want. He’d be perfect opposite Hutch IMO
  17. Personally I don’t like that at all. 1 yr of Paredes who isn’t a good defender and whose offense will likely be hurt by Comerica for 3-4 years of Carpenter who is our best hitter (and was top 3 in AL) against right handed pitching and still improving.
  18. To be honest, that sounds a lot like what 84 was saying. The best player on their board that they love. The right fit-ie lives and breathes football. And we’ve seen how best player for them is completely different than other teams.
  19. Next year, no premature offseason threads.
  20. Ben to the Bears
  21. Still not the time or place to put the decision and execution in Jamo’s hands. Totally unnecessary when they were moving the ball well without trickery. No reason to be desperate.
  22. I don’t think Ben was the problem, but I do think the Jamo pass was a disaster of a decision that ended any realistic chance of comeback. the decision to pass on 3rd and 1 ended up being wrong, but was defendable.
  23. No, that one would still be stupid. Down 10 needing to score for any realistic chance, with the weapons the Lions have and they way they were able to move the ball, you don’t have a wr having to make a decision to pass or throw it away. the end round and Montgomery shovel pass to St Brown are the ways the lions got there,-safe plays with very little risk of disaster-not WR throwing passes down 10 at the end of the 3rd quarter
  24. And a version of Meadows that wasn’t close to the Meadows when he came back up. (And Tork to an extent). As well as Greene and Carpenter out for extended time at the same time. I don’t think we will ever see another comeback like August-September, but hopefully we don’t see performances like April-mid July either. We finished close to the top end of where I expected going into 2024, (77-85 wins) just took a crazy way to get there.
