You might be thinking of the time Freddy Garcia pitched in a makeup game with the white sox on a Monday after the season ended that had a playoff feel to it. They needed to win it to force a one game playoff with MN.

Yes! That’s it. He should have won the CY in ‘16. In ‘17 he was just as good.

In ‘14 I recall Verlander being the question mark. Wasn’t he battling nagging injuries? Didn’t appear to miss time but definitely an off year. Was that when he had core issues in ST? Led to some disagreements with the Tigers medical staff. Anthony Fenech was digging into it which led to a thing.

Having retired siblings with nothing to do but obsess over items that are like #278 on your list. An aunt died late last year and the memorial is next month in TN. I’m driving down by myself for various reasons. This is located in a college town and in the area near the freeway every possible hotel chain you can imagine and some you never heard of is located there. I mean you have 3 or 4 sharing a parking lot. I quickly glanced at availability and its wide open and prices are fine. I’m being bombarded with questions on where I am staying and if I want them to book (no, I want to utilize my points) to let them know when I booked, etc. keep in mind I will see this sibling 4 or 5 times before we leave. She’s local. I’m working. I have a wife. A special needs son. I’m going out most nights doing stuff. I’m not worried about this. It’s not on my radar especially at 2:00 pm on a Monday. It’s not that big of a deal.

Their choice will come down to which one they think needs to work on something more than the other one does to reach their peak, and it won't be a difficult one to make or to sell to the person. Or an injury could make it for them.

Every year during a debate there's a conspiracy about one of the participants being "mic'd up" because they see a bulge somewhere.
-
They have them. The decision on Mize will not be dictated by his draft position. Why would they need cahones to make that call? Who's going to go after them? People on twitter? Are they afraid of making Mize mad? Or his agent? That's not how it works.
-
Nobody I know is hungry so there is no poverty.
-
Any pressure to go with Mize b/c of his draft status goes out the window to me since Harris isn’t the one who drafts him 1:1. Not sure it would have mattered anyway but if there was an ounce of it, that fact removes it.

You said it better than I could. Regarding whether it’s bad faith or just that world passing him by…. I think even if it’s just the second he should be aware enough to acknowledge that instead of trying to still portray himself as the smartest guy in the room. It’s ok if others caught up to him and and maybe he’s lost some passion to keep at it. Life evolves and our interests change. Reminds me a little of someone like Bob Costas doing a baseball game and living in the past while doing it. Bob… you were fine in your day. There’s new ways of playing and evaluating and broadcasting. It’s not bad.

I can’t express why specifically but Nate just bugs the **** out of me. He writes words but doesn’t say anything. In a tweet below he says “they didn’t do especially well” which is another way of saying “yeah I was wrong but I will just make up a higher standard and pretend that was everybody’s baseline” I think the dude has mental issues.

I think JD Vance is ready to replace and step into the role.

I agree. While not “illegal” and maybe not even wrong or unethical. But it was stupid. And why give his team any ammo at all to throw back. The judge here is doing the prosecution and the process a favor. I see it like a manager of an opposing team seeing something that’s possibly cheating but rather than make a stink and thing out of it, you just say “get rid of it and let’s move on”. Like LaRussa in the 2006 WS with Kenny Rogers. Fix the situation and keep playing.
-
Right. Maybe it’s not unprecedented but should certainly be newsworthy.
-
Interesting. I've never had that happen to me. As it is, the only people who call my phone are scammers or Walgreen's for prescriptions.
-
are you saying they call then you pick it up b/c of the call or you just pick it up to get, then you get the call? Like something detects you have it in your hand so they call?

What other conclusion is there to draw from these people protesting that other than antisemitism?
-
Same for losing pitcher.

Actuall you don't really have the right to "demand" provide proof for what they believe. You can ask, they can decline or share their story like tigerholic did. Then you can move on without belittling them or making them feel stupid for thinking what they do. LIfe is not a court of law. You do not have a "right" to evidence or proof unless they are asking you to do something or are invading your freedom somehow. Nobody here is doing that. you are sort of contradicing yourself by saying people have a right to believe anything they want yet also saying you "demand" evidence and they shouldn't 'abrogate your right to evidence'. Nobody is asking you to change your beliefs or what you do.

As I always say, I feel like science and religion get into conflict because people don't understand that they are answering different questions. I sense animosity towards science by religion because they feel it contradicts their faith. It doesnt have to. If you take literal interpretation of ancient texts, often incomplete, by a small group of people hundreds and thousands of years ago, then that's a matter of faith. Science should go where the evidence takes them. There is no conlict between the two unless you adhere to literal translations of the various religious texts out there. If you do then you will find resistence among the science community. And the science community should understand that matters of faith do not require scientific proof. That's why it's called faith and not science. Just let them be. And that holds true to the other side. Don't feel threatened when science says something that contradicts what has been taught in Sunday School.

They could also change the rule that requires a starter needs to go 5 to get a win. Make it just whoever is in the game when the team takes the lead for good. It would be a silly thing to do though b/c you are changing a rule based on the designation of a statistic and right now I can't think of any other situation that would or could have been done. But it's also a silly rule. I mean if a reliever can come in and give up the lead, get it back, then get the W, why can't a starter who gets staked to a 8-0 lead but is taken out in the 5th after giving up 4 not get the win? They will never go away from awarding a pitcher a W so at least make it more indicative of how the game is played today.

Just saw a thing that pointed out that Cameron Maybin hit HR's in 3 different decades for the Tigers, 2000's, 2010's, and 2020's, despite only playing in around 130 games for the team.

I believe it's just someone rushing to write a story and nobody gave it a second thought. Like I said, there's no editors anymore to catch that. Just churn them out. Probably written by a 19 year old free lancer for $25.

Strip Malls are the worst. The other day we went to a new place to eat, new for us, in Taylor by Southland. Across the was a near empty Strip Mall that once housed a sporting good store, Kids R Us, Coney Island, SHoe places, etc. with a nice Star Theater as an anchor. Now it's near empty. A hockey store (which I think is still thriving due to being in Downriver) and a Burlington Coat Factory, which has degenerated into a very bad place to shop. The rest of it is empty.
