You don't rebuild through the draft. I went through the first 3 rounds of every draft since 2016. Here's what I found for "good" players. Will Smith, Dodgers. 32nd pick in 2016 1st round Pete Alonso, Mets 64th pick in 2016 2nd round Bo Bichette,Blue Jays 66th pic in 2016 2nd round Bryan Reynolds, Giants 59th pick in 2016 2nd round Zach Gallen, Cardinals 106th pick in 2016 3rd round Sean Murphy, A's, 83rd pick in 2016 3rd round Shane Mclanahan, Rays 31st pick in 2017 1st round It's development. x100. Some orgs can develop much better than others. You can't tell me the teams are sitting on gold players after the first 2 rounds just hoping they slip through.

that's good to know.

2023 Detroit Tigers Regular Season Discussion Thread
oblong replied to oblong's topic in Detroit Tigers
Another choice of "do I spend the $20 between parking and a beer and drive down to sit in cooler damp weather to watch a dumpster fire?". This is where I actually like the 6:40 start time and faster pace because even if I do go there's a good chance I'm home by 9:30. I thought I was past that point with this team. -
Ponch and Jon didn't get along very well either. Neither did Laverne and Shirley. Larry Hagman and Patrick Duffy were like brothers in real life. Patrick was there the day Larry died.

Geese (not goose) is a great band name.

A former FBI agent on CNN suggested it could be strategic to force a delay. But who knows.... he might have asked them to do something they wouldn't do. Did they quit in reaction to his aide being indicted?
-
they will argue that he was just joking or didn't know any better and Obama, Hillary, Hunter, Biden Crime Family....

because I'm an "old man" and do these things, like track flights, planets, the space station.... I also downloaded the EPA's air quality app. In philly it's currently 173. It's 117 in Detroit. -
I'm not Catholic but my wife is... I am a little uneasy or skeptical of the reliance on praying to saints and others.
-
absolutely. Fundamentalists don't think Catholics are legit Christians because of Mary or something.
-
MLK Sr did the same thing until RFK called Coretta Scott King after Jr got arrested in 1960. Unfortunately anti catholic bias among protestants was acceptable back then. When JFK spoke before Baptist preachers in Texas LBJ told the staff to make sure the "meanest" looking preachers were up front and within view of the TV camera. He wanted the nation to see them nodding along to JFK.

Graham's about as good as you can get for the big name ones. The knock against him is his lack of pushback against Nixon when he was making racial and antisemetic comments on tape. Other than that I can't think of anything really controversial. I can say that many in the fundamentalist evangelical circle actually didn't like him because they thought he was too accommodating to other Christian denominations. I recall an interview on King where Larry was pressing him on whether Jews and Hindus and others would go to hell because they didn't believe like Christians do. Graham wouldn't say they would, only that his religion teaches him that he will go to Heaven.

"Why didn't I get the easy CNN?" The fact we will indict a former President is the precise message you want to send to the rest of the world.

I really hate when I go to a gathering of some sort and.... guitar guy shows up. Sitting around a fire talking and having some drinks... here comes guitar guy to sing Gordon Lightfoot and break up the fun....

I've watered my lawn 3 times in 3 days when I don't think I've watered it 3 times in the previous 2 years. There's a sprinkler system here but I've never used it. Wasn't listed on the disclosure form and the inspector found it. I asked the guy at closing and he said he never used it either. I tried turning it on once and nothing happened. I tried digging around the flower bed where the valves are on the outside to find a box to connect something and couldn't find it. My wife wants me to hire someone to sort it out but I'm not into the business of spending money to make me cut the grass more often.

It bugs me too and I'm not into golf as much as I used to be. But I knew the distinction. On a similar vein people will often bitch about something related to 3 of the majors and say something like "The PGA needs to get it's act together..."

And to show how much I really do love them.... when we first moved in they had a party for us. They gave us a tree to plant. She asked if she could plant some stuff in our flower bed. This happened to be on one of those days I get off from work, like Veterans or Election Day, so she's out there in my yard doing that while I'm sitting inside having coffee and a donut in my robe... slacker. They're always willing to help with gardening or plant questions or to borrow a tool. They're great people. But man... take it easy. Making us look bad. Their daughter and family live across the street and we have a good laugh about how they make us feel lazy. But I suspect I will be that way in 10 years. Already I take personal days to work outside and just "putz around" as I call it. My dad was on disability my while life so that's what I watched him do growing up. Always tinkering.

The religious portion of the right wing needs victim status. That gives them a share sense of suffering, like Jesus suffered.

anyone watching Shiny Happy People on Prime? About the Duggar family.

The old "I hate blacks... except for my friend Carl..." Except they didn't say "blacks".

"Today I'm going to power wash this old laundry clothes pole that isn't used anymore. Then when finished I'm going to make sure my chain saw works and is all oiled up. Don't need it right now but you never know"

RIP Bubba. A true legend and pro.

Money. I don't understand it because I don't have that gene in me. At some point enough is enough, right? Is there a difference when you are 40 years old between 30 million and 120 million? Yes, if you offered to triple my wealth right now I'd have a decision to make but that's a decision between, generally speaking, 6 and 7 figures and being able to retire now vs 10-12 years from now. But at some point that decision becomes easier to deny the more you have. I wouldn't even broach the subject of abandoning principals if I have a few million that I'm sitting on. I do feel bad for the tour guys. They're not all wealthy. Yes they might have sponsor deals and all that but they're independent contractors and that's costly by itself. They had no say in this. The big guys will be alright. The trunk slammers are in a tough spot.
