I think of the Smoltz/Alexander trade. Did the Tigers, or even Atlanta, think or have any thought that he would be a HOFer? No way. You can't predict that. But I still think that's a trade you make if you are the Tigers.

Worth pointing out that even if Joe does well that's no bearing to me on Harris or his staff. The goal isn't to "win" trades as a comparison but to make your team better, however you want to measure that.

and for national events like the Super Bowl or World Series, the anthem is a chance to promote an artist and record label. That's why they televise it then but not during regular season games. I mean... if it's about patriotism then they would show it on TV right? No. Bally (Sinclair, right wingers) need their ad dollars. To their credit Canada does show it which I like because they have a great anthem. But some complain now that it's woke. Look it up.

Why do we play the NA before sporting events but not other forms of entertainment? I get it being played in international competitions, country vs country, etc. In that regard it can be seen as a theme song. But pro sports is a billion dollar commercial enterprise making a lot of people very rich... but hey, maybe that's what America's about. We don't play it before concerts or plays or movies. Why sports but not those? And spare me the "veteran of the game" things because that's not about saluting veterans. It's about the opportunity for Chevy or whoever to get a few minutes of commercial time. It's one of those things that for most people has always been done so it makes sense until you stop to think about it.

I think that's what prompted the discussion originally.

Sinema is not going to switch parties. She wants to keep her committee assignments. From what I've read this is simply about trying to not lose a D primary in '24. Even if she doesn't caucus it's 50-49 D's. No practical change to what we expected in the senate.

well she kneeled or something... or she's a black lesbian. what more do you need to know?

I remember very shortly before they were fired, like maybe even the day before, they both hosted the nightly sports show on WJR. There was a vacation or something so they had guest hosts that week. I listened to it while delivering pizzas. They were both having fun with it and did a fine job. Then either the next day or few days after, they were fired. WJR made a big stink about how Beckman was a former usher or whatever as a kid and it was a dream come true, blah blah blah. Lary Sorensen was his broadcast partner. They were not given a chance here.

they love him in Seattle. I don't know.... is it any worse than.... at the risk of saying it.... "looooong gone"? Things are great when spontaneous but now even Dickerson will take the "into the mob scene at home" from the Magglio call and use it for, say a Wednesday afternoon walk off in May.

yeah, probably "Stop giving money to Ukraine and get out of the way"

It plays right into Russia's playbook.

I saw it suggested on twitter by someone that it's our fault she was in prison because of gender pay equity. She had to go play there to make money. Come on..... Gender pay in the workplace is a real issue but not when it comes to pro sports. Just because a man and a woman are the best at playing basketball doesn't mean society is required to pay them equally. Pro sports is about as equitable as you'll find in terms of someone's dollar worth to the industry. Saying things like that hurts the real victims.

I think it's against the terms and conditions of twitter to backtrack. The allowed course of action is to double down on your wrongness.

I delivered a pizza to him once. I also remember hearing him do some NCAA tourny games.

I see that Al Avila is trending on twitter, click on it, and its people asking if he made this trade. Very harsh and undeserved.

Bo was not the god from Michigan when he ran the Tigers. Don't forget his association with Monoghan in general tarred his image. Remember SAVE TIGER STADIUM and the Tiger Stadium Fan Club? I assure you his time as Michigan's coach played no role in his perception to Tiger fans. In many ways it's a different fan base. My family were huge Tiger fans but couldn't give two shits about Michigan. Not anti michigan either. Just indifferent. He was just another football coach to us. The Ernie stuff was just icing on the cake. But to Bo's credit, it was WJR's management that pushed Ernie out and Bo fought for one more year. When the heat came Bo said it was his job to take it as the boss even if some of it was misaligned. Granted this is Bo's side of things through Mitch Albom but Joe Falls also checked it out. In his book Falls recounts that he was home sick when the news broke so he wasn't on the scene immediately. But he didn't think things looked right. Here's a guy who signed a one year contract, with a huge raise, then has a press conference, in their building, announcing he's being fired. He started digging and had arranged a meeting with Bo, then he gets there and he sees Mitch walking away from the house. That was another story but the fact he kind of cooborates what Mitch wrote makes me think it's the truth. Whether Beckman was pulling strings... who knows. But Ernie did say when he came back in 1993 or whenever it was, that Rick and Bob were cold toward him. He offered lunch dates and mentoring but that bob in particular wasn't interested. He got relegated to pre/post game shows. Rick is a great broadcaster with Seattle so I guess it works out. Just a shitty decision and unforced error. But I do think that fuss elevated Ernie above a level he might not have attained. All of his catch phrases and such were not quite as prominent pre-firing as you would think. Then they became a trademark. Think of George Blaha.... people like him but is he beloved? No. Now imagine the Pistons were going to fire him in 2006? Then they bring him back and viola, he's beloved. Blaha rules. Every bit the legend. We're blessed in this town.

Colbert's show the other night was dedicated to Space Force. He visited their base in Greenland. They did a segment of Karaoke and Sturgill joined in. He seemed a very good sport.

I know we have some Billy Strings fans in here... he's playing Pine Knob on June 16. Our boy is moving up. I'm on the fence about going. It's too far for me and depending on prices I dont know if it'll be worth it. Not taking any initiative but if my buddy gets tickets then I'll go I guess.

I think it's the Trump brand that is elevating the GOP. He's got a distinct group of 10% of today's GOP voters that won't vote for anyone else that's not in the family. These people aren't even Desantis fans. Once they go.... The problem is the only way to get them is to have the GOP nominee attend a Trump rally as if it's a Trump campaign. So yeah that might get those people but then you have the anti factor we see today. So who knows.... Couldn't happen to nicer people. I'd love to see Ronna dumped. Sold your family out... for what?

just stop.... nobody cares.

Joe has a lot more songs than I realized when I did that a few years ago. Like an idiot I didn't even know of the James Gang. I knew the songs obviously. I got to see the Eagles in 2017 and while the show was heavily choreographed and exactly what you would expect and probably the same precise show they play every single night, seeing Joe play Hotel California even without Felder, was great. I got free tickets so that helped. No way I would pay Don Henley prices to see the band as they are today... no shot at Vince Gill either. I like him.
