  1. We saw how well Texas did when it got a little cold for them and their "independent grid" couldn't keep up.
  2. I think it was Lee who once shared a meme or screenshot where someone on social security asked "If we seceed do we still get our social security checks?"
  3. I've been thinking about this over the last few days and this is a good place to express it... With twitter and podcasts and all of that... there's simply not enough things to talk about and people like Evan and Cody and those other non professional writer folks with podcasts have to find things to say and we've run out of them. Talk radio can get by because they have callers and can change the subject to another sport or current events or whatever and that fills the time. But these folks who have to fill up an hour or more each week, sometimes twice a week... they've run out of ideas. Rage sells. Controversy sells. I know that's nothing new but the quest for not only engagement but engagement on a daily basis leads to this. That doesn't work when covering baseball because baseball is about trends and direction, not yesterday's game. It's climate vs. weather, macro vs micro.
  4. It's an addiction. When I got my tattoo I heard that it can be addicting and I can understand why. The sensastion of the needle does something. I would definitely get another one but I can't decide what or where but I get why some people cover their bodies. I think its the same with plastic surgery. This is just the latest trend in that field. I don't know that it's about Trump per se... but just what people in teh same circle do. My wife is in the medical field and several nurses now have their side hustle as botox injections and it is the new MLM (Multi Level Marketing). It's a little different in that you don't drag your friends into it but it, of course, requires multiple injections. And in every example the after pictures look worse. Every one. But they somehow convince women that forehead wrinkles are bad. And it's not just women. There's "Bro-Tox".
  5. Where are you going? I didn't approve this request.
  6. Reggie gave some love to Detroit during the broadcast. Said everytime he comes here the fans treat him like one of their own due to his ASG HR. It's all they want to talk abou.
  7. Sheesh... a local store closes because the owners are in the early 70s and want to retire and people say "Another failure by WHIT-LESS and BIDEN". Or a business advertises that they have open positions and everybody says "BIDEN paying people to STAY HOME and NOBODY WANTS TO WORK"
  8. and I wonder with the expanded playoffs is "selling to make the playoffs" even a thing anymore. Too early to tell I guess.
  9. He had 501 plate appearances in the 5 spot. 8400 at #3 and 1840 at #4. The reason it stood out to me is his HR rate in the 2nd inning was a lot higher than his other positions. 1/29 in first, 1/11 in second, 1/17 in third and 1/20 in fourth innings.
  10. Pretty good distribution. His second inning number is impressive to me because how often did he bat in the 2nd inning?
  11. Isn’t the logic being that due to the fact the cable companies wired things up? The air is the air. But a wire technically belongs to someone and you choose to accept that signal.
  12. Rush Limaugh's rise came in the late 80s and early 90's. By 1996 he was already at his peak. Right wing talk radio didn't come about because of deregulation.
  13. To me Rickey and Hank Aaron were underrated... in that the focus on HR and Steals for them could have changed the perception. Outside of those two things they were still great great players.
  14. So with Willie Mays passing away who is the great living player? You have the controversial take for people like Bonds and ARod. Mike Schmidt? Johnny Bench? Rickey Henderson?
  15. I don't know anything about the Pistons anymore but in my amateur opinion when a guy doesn't want to coach and you throw that kind of money at him to have to entice him... his heart won't be in it. And from what I read here and on twitter it sure seemed like it.
  16. is that real or a NY TIme PItchbot type thing? There's a "Dearborn" social media page, not run by the city, just some young bros who talk about the latest chicken or ice cream places to open, new stores in Canton, and traffic videos, etc.... but every time they have a post about something the comments are like "How can people go swimming at a time like this with what's going on in Gaza?"
  17. Didn't he get hurt with a rib injury shortly after?
  18. We started to get it as a holiday this year, along with the option of using it with 2 others as 'floating holidays'. I was originally not going to do that because I didn't want to appear racist but then one of my bosses, who is black, said he's switching it with July 5, a Friday, I felt better about it.
  19. But Israel made them do it. They wouldnt be critical of Hamas if Israel didn't do what they did.
  20. Reese Olson does not want to be interviewed
  21. I was bummed when I visited a few years ago and realized that awesome looking building was his.
  22. He is in a bind though considering how many of his constiuents are directly affected by what is going on and his own heritage. The guy is young too, early 30's. But if you didn't watch the news or see him on twitter you would never know he's saying what he does. He doesn't speak about it at city functions or when he's in public, like a business opening. I think he does a decent job at separating his personal and professional life. He was a democratic member of the state legisature before running for mayor and is connected to the party. The big test will be what he does with regard to endorsing Biden. He loved to spend the money the democrats gave our city.
  23. and he's actually a good mayor notwithstanding. If it wasn't for this issue I'd be fine with him. He is very engaging with the community, responds to things quickly like trash pickup delays. City services are better. He brought in a lot of younger people to head the departments rather than those who have been around for 25-30 years. The budget is balanced yet we have more stuff going on now. In our rec center where I work out, the area with the bikes, treadmills, and weights, faces a giant wall of glass where on the other side is the pool. "A few people" complained that they didn't like being "stared at". So they put up a protective barrier over the glass, with a map of all the city rec facilities. Everyone hated it. Made the room look smaller, blocked out natural light, etc. Every day the rec director got complaints about it on his voicemail, he would forward to the mayor. (I know this because my son works there). I complained. His words were "a few people didn't like the glass". It's been that way for 20 years since it opened. It was nice to walk by to know how crowded the pool was. A parent could work out and their kids could swim, and they could see each other. We suspect that it was "religous" in nature. To his credit the mayor took it down after about a month.
  24. I agree with that. You don't build bullpens. They just happen. And they don't last.
  25. our mayor had a tweet about Latimer... which someone said they can't wait to retweet it after he wins by 20.
