My understanding is that Trayce Thompson was about to opt out.... I didn't mind the trade.

Another part of the Rosenthal piece, on the AJ angle: AJ, along with not having an opt-out, is under contract for longer than Al is. Might be the only positive thing in that piece....

https://theathletic.com/3377830/2022/06/22/mlb-detroit-tigers-failing-season/?source=emp_shared_article Great work from Ken Rosenthal going over the pitfalls of this org. Also includes this gem: In other words, Lynn Henning has caused about a season and a half of angst over something that isn't even reality.

They can also use a guy who can push Candy as well, who I'm not as much of a believer in at this point. So yeah, that's where I fall as well. The second question is the tough, because I don't know what he'd cost (or if he's even on the market)....

Worth pointing out as well. 24 hours ago, Paredes OPS+ and wRC+ were both worse than Meadows.... Again, it really speaks to the idea that you need to give it time and not react to the last 90 ABs.

Random, but since Toledo is playing Scranton/Wilkes Barre this week: Would it be worth it for the Tigers to trade for Miguel Andujar, who the Yankees have stashed away playing 3rd and OF down there? What would it take from this system to get him?

It's tempting to just be glass is half empty about everything that happens with this franchise (thanks Al!), but with this trade, I don't think we've had a big enough window to declare it a failure at this point. Same with the ERod signing as well btw, since I've seen people call him Jordan Zimmermann from practically his first start.

You don't want to read too much into a waiver claim, but my first reaction to them claiming Sanchez was that it may speak to how the organization feels about Barnhart going forward. Not that he's gonna be DFA'd or anything, but rather that the talk of extending him is a thing of the past I don't know that Sanchez is a major league starter, but I doubt he's a guy that is stuck on a AAA roster for the next three years.

26% CS this year, 35% CS in 2021. ~.990 fielding percentage. He seems solid behind the dish.

Yeah, Policelli isn't a major leaguer.... Sanchez probably can be.

He ended DFA'd up off the St. Louis 40 man to make room for Jack Flaherty. Similar to how Brendon Davis ended up here, probably trying to sneak him through without anyone noticing.

Come on.... it's clearly Door #1.

It'd be nice if some of these cash considerations could be used on picking up something useful

I think this is right. Maybe Paredes ends up the better end of the trade. Very well could considering the conditional draft pick, tbh. But I'd rather see how it plays out going forward, at least into next year, before rendering a judgment.

Meadows' cost per production is irrelevant to me... I do believe, even now, he is capable of holding up his end of the trade.
-
He only had 23 games, 72 plate appearances last year in 162 games last year. He's been in 31 games, 86 plate appearances through 68 games this year. He never had the runway he needed to get off the ground here, he's getting more runway this year. That seems like a significant factor to me.

Andre Lipcius had a big night for Erie as well, 3/4, 2B, 4 RBI... always forget about him, but he's picked it up lately
-
The past four or so games kinda give you the contours of what next year could look like offensively. But, since we've talked about him a lot tonight, beara mentioning that they really need Meadows back and producing.

No doubt, I agree...

To be fair, you could easily point to Chafin giving up the dong to Vazquez.

Cora going to get Schreiber and his slider for Baez

That's when you get the comments about the quality of the Mexican League....
