  1. The Firearm Services Bureau, which is part of the Illinois State Police. But again, we don't actually know whether didn't do their job! There has to be a legal basis for a government agency to deny an FOID card, otherwise that agency risks ending up in a lawsuit or being sued.
  2. FWIW, here's a comment from a Lake County attorney quoted in the Tribune: https://www.chicagotribune.com/news/criminal-justice/ct-highland-park-gun-trace-20220706-3z6krxp2irb4pi7cj6y3ak3r4e-story.html Setting aside the comment about ISP's Firearm Services Bureau being bureaucratic as hell (that's Illinois for you), when you cut through the noise, there might not have been a legal basis based on law for denying him an FOID card. That suggests less a failure of "government agencies" and more that current laws need to be looked at and strengthened.
  3. Yeah, probably better to take a wait and see. I guess my point is that, while it's a terrible look for ISP, I don't know that we have enough information at this point to know whether, legally, there was a basis to deny Crimo III an FOID card. That kinda nuanced view isn't gonna work in the world we live in though.
  4. As an aside, I also love how Archie blames "government agencies".... is it that hard to call them the police, or do you have to turn in your "blue lives matter" card the moment you criticize law enforcement?
  5. From the article: Maybe buddha or someone who understands Illinois law better can interject, but I don't believe the Illinois State Police legally could have just denied his application for an FOID card without an actual arrest on his record. Maybe we'll learn more information, but the villians in this case seem to be the family, who largely seemed to circle the wagons at critical junctures when Crimo III interacted with the police, and who decided to sponsor Crimo III when he was eligible to get an FOID card.
  6. Hope Vest didn't make it all the way to Omaha before having to fly back lol
  7. IIRC, the scuttlebutt at the time of the trade was that, from the Rays' perspective, Meadows was coming at a higher cost in future years and that clearing him out would create room for Josh Lowe. (Who thus far hasn't performed well at all, but that's neither here nor there) I do think that they liked Paredes, otherwise they wouldn't have gotten him in the trade. But along with all the conspiracies about how the Rays "knew" something was up with Meadows and they needed to dump him on an unsuspecting buyer, there is a lot of revisionist history about Paredes role in the trade. At the end of the day, he wasn't the straw that stirred the drink, so to speak.
  8. I don't think it's gonna happen now because I suspect he's seen, at least theoretically, as a trade chip. But if he's still treading water (or worse) later in the month and Baddoo is still stinging the ball down in Toledo, it's hard to justify keeping him on the team. I suspect they think they can get a lottery ticket for Grossman at a minimum, but IDK.
  9. Definitely the most memorable player of that late 90s, early 2000s era and probably the best as well. He strikes me as a guy who would have been remembered differently had he been around and at his prime during the 2006-2014 era. Completely forgot about this, but this is spot on... he frequently brought up "Big Bob" during broadcasts when he was paired with Lewin. In retrospect it was sorta weird, but one gets the impression that Gibby must have liked that crew off the field.
  10. Tigers are now 6-2 against Cleveland this year... Wild
  11. I really hate it when you're winning.
  12. Will Vest's lucky day lol
  13. Good point, oops!
  14. Sure enough... 3 whole innings of them in fact lol
  15. At this rate, Terry F is gonna be sending out a position player in this one lol
  16. Riley again!
  17. Cleveland with more Tigeresque D
  18. TBF, the guys who would ideally be taking these starts are all pitching in the majors right now (ie. Faedo, Brieske, Hill) because of injuries or guys being MIA (ie. Mize, Manning, ERod, previously Pineda).... two of their other options (ie. R. Garcia, Wentz) are injured, and another option clearly isn't a better option than Hutchison at the moment (ie. ElRod) I guess they could theoretically reach further down and bring Reese Olson or Austin Bergner or Chance Kirby into this mess, but I'm guessing they do not think they are ready. At this point, I'll take the fact that they have barely had any scheduled bullpen games during a year where they've set a record for the franchise in terms different starters as a sign of progress, even if it involves Hutchison getting starts.
  19. Heartbreaking.... cannot even imagine.
  20. Is Boris' time up?
  21. Considering where he was at the beginning of the year, Parker Meadows would qualify as a bright spot IMO. Not necessarily an all inclusive list, and others MMV, but here's a few I'd say qualify. Upper Minors: Wenceel, Carpenter, Meadows, Lipcius, Hill (as we saw yesterday), Flores, Olson, Bergner Lower Minors: Ty Madden, Brant Hurter, Colt Keith (when he wasn't injured), Josh Crouch, Izaac Pacheco, Manuel Sequera (good power #'s, needs to make more consistent contact), Garrett Burhenn The big question I have is with the some of the position players who have broken out (ie. Carpenter) or have seen their stock rebound (ie. Wenceel, Lipcius, Meadows) is whether they can go beyond the expectation of being slotted as utility/depth guys at the big league level. Or in the case of Carpenter the perception of being a AAAA guy. Skeptical, but who knows.

  23. This is another thing that a country with a functional government would be able to grapple or deal with in a more effective manner. Yet will not for obvious reasons.
