romad1 Posted May 13 Posted May 13 The voice of the woman on Ghorman doing the radio broadcast could have been Radio Warsaw in 1939, 1942 and 1944 or Budapest in 1956 or Prague in 1968. Hard hitting. The series supplies the layers of context that watching Alderan destroyed and it giving Alec Guiness heartburn (not to dismiss his acting like that he was a genius) did not. 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted May 18 Posted May 18 If you simply want to watch the second season of the HBO series The Last of Us you shouldn’t watch this video. The series is based on this second game and the series I believe extends into a total of three seasons. It’s 15 hours long and the uploading gamer doesn’t die once when average gamers die 70 to 150 times. There’s also a learning curve of just figuring out how to get from one place to another that takes a frustrating amount of time and none of that occurs within this play-through. It took my son easily 30-40 hours to make it through the game as I sat and watched. There is some horrific and troubling violence that exceeds anything seen thus far on the show in this game. I don’t know how they’ll collapse this game into two remaining episodes and one more season but anyway here it is if it interests you. 1 Quote

The entire context of Rogue One changes after the series. Phenomenal stuff. Even the Disney sweater vests can't ruin it with shameless toy marketing. The quality of Andor is just stupendous. As good as Slow Horses. As good as The Wire. Maybe as good as The Sandbaggers. Edited May 18 by romad1 Quote
Tigeraholic1 Posted May 19 Posted May 19 Great episode The Last of us. Perfect timing to tie up Joel loose ends. This has been a great series and really makes me look forward to Sunday nights. Quote

When you see the ceremony where Luke and Han get their medals..... what of all the others in the rebellion that made it happen? Is Luke the happy face of the movement because he's safe and didn't get into the dirty details that led up to it? The series maximizes Cassian Andor beyond a sidekick in Rogue One for sure. We watched Rogue One through the eyes of Jyn Erso. Now that's changed. They've done in live action what Clone Wars and Rebels did in animation. Fleshed out the movies that gave us so much more detail and back story and character development. I now view most of the movies as just a cliffs notes version of what happened in the Star Wars universe during that time. And I love the lack of fan service in Andor. Not everything has to be connected. We don't need cameos. Quote

Yes, the dressing down that Jyn gives Cassian on the ship after her father dies, has a totally different context when he tells her has been in the rebellion since he was "seex yers old" and you know all about his being rescued by Maarva and Clem and Clem's murder by the empire and the fact that the love of his life had to leave and that he was told the "rebellions are built on hope" line by a guy who is most likely dead right now. oblong Posted May 20 Posted May 20 In a new hope Vader declares "There will be no one to stop us this time...." That's a reference to Cassian Andor now. 1 Quote

Mr.TaterSalad Posted May 20 Posted May 20 RIP George Wendt aka Norm Peterson from Cheers. A piece of my childhood is gone. Quote
GalagaGuy Posted May 20 Posted May 20 This was always my favorite "Norm opening" and he doesn't even say a word. 1 1 1 Quote
oblong Posted May 20 Posted May 20 It's also the 32nd anniversary of the final episode. 84 million people watched. "Women, can't live with 'em...... pass the beer nuts" was one I use often 1 Quote
Motor City Sonics Posted May 21 Posted May 21 (edited) My favorite three Normisms 3 - It's a dog-eat-dog world and I'm wearing Milk Bone underwear 2 - Hey Mr. Peterson, Jack Frost nippin' at your nose? Yeah, now how about Joe Beer nippin' at my liver 1 - Hey Mr. Peterson, Wha'cha up to? My ideal weight if I were 11 feet tall. Edited May 21 by Motor City Sonics Quote
oblong Posted May 22 Posted May 22 The space nerd in me was geeking out big time during the last episode of Last of Us. Minor nitpick, the Apollo 15 capsule is in Dayton at the Wright Patterson museum. And it's kind of gutted as they reused some hardware. But the audio they used of the Apollo 11 launch was correct. That's the guy. Jack King is his name. Two ways to spot a legitimate countdown is if they say "Guidance is internal" at 15 seconds and "Ignition Sequence Start" right after he gets to 9 seconds. 1 Quote
pfife Posted May 23 Posted May 23 we watched Reacher on Prime and it's pretty good. Now we are watching Your Friends & Neighbors on Apple TV and it's pretty good. I need to catch up on Andor, Last of Us, and really interested in Mobland. Quote
pfife Posted May 23 Posted May 23 Oh yeah we watched The Pitt too and I hated it, not because it was bad but it was like balls to the wall stress. I probably hated its intended effect. Quote

Here’s patient B with something else. Oh wow. Here’s patient C with another weird thing. Oh wow. Look how fast they talk. Wait. Someone may die. Or not. But hold on, now that other person is dying. Crap. Oh look. Big surprise, it turns out the STD was the fault of the girl. Not the man. This is stressful. but I know it’s my issue. I can’t deny the popularity. I’m just kind of squeamish and it all runs together. Quote

We've already had ER, Chicago Hope, blah blah blah, but this one was different. Dealing with ONE DAY and in real time - and showing some pretty negative things too. Like the abuse medical staff can put up with. I've seen it in person when I worked at a hospital. Nurses are tough as nails. Quote
oblong Posted May 23 Posted May 23 I think I have a phobia with hospitals. Whenever I have to go into one, to visit, I get very anxious. It could be sensory related with all the people and noises and activity. My wife works in one so she eats it all up. She will say "Oh, I gotta tell you, I had this patient today..." and I immediately stop her. If it involves any kind of bodily fluids or weird injuries I do not want to hear about it. Quote

I used to have it was doctors offices. The moment I walked into the exam room I'd get all clammy and light headed. When our son was born being in the delivery room was a new phenomenon. I had to wait until my wife was prepped, but the moment I walked in I nearly passed out. Now I see doctors often enough not much phases me. Not even the colostomy exam. (Prep is still a PIA). I consider it an opportunity for a quick nap Quote

Like the intubation tube is not in far enough in or equipment being used wrong. Kinda of drives me nuts but makes you wonder if they have medical consulants they work with to lay out a set. Quote
