When I started to playfully type, “we are unleashing Montero on the Padres tonight,” my iPhone autocorrected it to “monsters.“ This is one of those times where I hope the soulless object I hold in my hand is correct. I hope they play in a way that makes up for that first loss in the series.

That place looks gorgeous.  Up there with Pittsburgh?

I'm a sucker for incorporating history with a ballpark.  The metal supply company building as the left field foul line.  The warehouse in Baltimore.  The rooftop bleachers outside of Wrigley (way to kill that charm).  I kind of wish Detroit would bring the flagpole back into play as it had been before the fences were moved and as it was at Tiger Stadium, but I acknowledge that additional outfield obstacles are the last thing Riley Greene needs

I've been outside of Petco field.  Last year we went to SD for vacation and went downtown one night for dinner.   They have a "Gaslamp" district with cool restaurants and shops.  There was a concert going on and they had streets blocked off for the trucks so I couldn't get too close.

San Diego was perfect.  Everything was 20 minutes away.

My company used to have late summer meetings in San Diego and it was so strange to leave Boise Idaho, where it was 100° in August and come to San Diego where it was foggy in the morning and 72° when it heated up. I never remembered to bring a jacket even though I needed one. Simply because I was used to hot weather and it felt so cold.

I went to a game there about 10 years ago. It is a nice ballpark, I had good views from left/center field, upper deck. Not a large crowd for a weeknight game against the Brewers.
This was my view, my wife was at an event in the in the building behind the billboards.

We signaled each other with our phones.

The offices of the Orioles are in the warehouse. I lived in Balto for almost a year and worked at Doner advertising out there, and I was at the Orioles' offices for a presentation. I couldn't help staring out the window at the field, even though it was January. My boss had to bark my name out, in front of the client, to snap me out of my reverie. Quite embarrassing. I was laid off a few weeks later, on, of all dates, February 29.

Been to Camden many times and Memorial Park as well. Lived there for about 9 years when the parks changed. Great ballpark. We often go to San Diego for weekends since we moved West and Petco is indeed cool but I prefer the bricks of Camden. And Boog's BBQ 😉

It’s 82°, which is a heat wave in SD and there is no rain in the forecast. Although this game begins indecently late this is about as good as you can get. 61% humidity. Does humidity help the ball travel or does it slow it down?

Water vapor is less dense than air, the density of air goes down as it gets more humid (and of course as it get warmer) and so the aerodynamic resistance also goes down. Humid air "feels heavy" but that's just a perceptual misdirection.

However the larger effect is probably on the ball, and a damper ball is heavier and generally less elastic - so in desert climates the balls are now all stored in a humidor to keep them from drying out and getting too lively. If you assume the humidor is keeping the balls uniform (probably a lousy assumption!) then you can say more humidity in the air at the park helps the ball travel.

A pensioner who used to work here in Hamilton moved to San Diego and would call me a couple of times a year.  I would always say "Hey Bob what's the temperature?" and he would say "75".

Dillon Dingler grounds out, shortstop Mason McCoy to first baseman Jake Cronenworth. Spencer Torkelson scores.

For a kid struggling something to hang his hat on.
