Motor City Sonics Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 Well, I was listening to sports radio on Monday and it's obvious. Jared Goff sucks and the Hendon Hooker era should start this coming Sunday. I mean, the Lions defense could not stop Buffalo, so obviously Goff sucks. And Brad Holmes is worse than Matt Millen because he didn't sign better backups. Quote

Motown Bombers Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I've been thinking about the onside kick against Buffalo, and I'm wondering what the rules are? It has to travel 10 yards, but what if you kick it high and deep and have a speedster like Gibbs or Williams chase it down? Is there a rule on how deep you can kick it? 1 Quote

I think if you were to kick it high a team could immediately call a fair catch preventing the kicking team from gaining possession until the receiving team touches the ball. Quote

I am still confused by last year's home game against the Bears when Williams was sacked and then the ball punched out of the end zone for a safety. Bears had to kick the ball to the Lions. But after a safety they are allowed to punt it if they choose to and they did so. High up, making it a jump ball. Lions recovered, but it seemed like this type of play gave the Bears a greater chance at getting the ball than they deserved. Was wondering at the time why the Lions couldn't call a fair catch then instead of letting it be a jump ball. Edited December 19, 2024 by lordstanley Quote
Nate7474 Posted December 19, 2024 Posted December 19, 2024 I believe they put in a rule that if the ball goes thru the setup zone (20 yards) untouched the play is dead and then the receiving team gets the ball. Basically eliminating exactly that from happening. Quote

Motor City Sonics Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 (edited) Chargers just showed you, Lions fans, what the NFL is. Last week they got absolutely destroyed by Tampa Bay 40-17. This week they come right back and win a crucial game. I believe in Craig Reynolds. Last year's play of the year was by Craig Reynolds, if you remember. Hongbit Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I absolutely believe they can overcome the current injuries and still make the Super Bowl. Here’s what concerns me. We’ve lost crucial parts in just about every game. Why would these last 3 games be any different? The bucket is already overflowing. I don’t think this team can handle any more injuries and it’s likely they will have more. Obviously, winning games is the most important but it really needs to happen without losing any more guys. Yeah I was saying something like this to people at work the other day. Teams tend to get more banged up as the season goes on and we still have 4 more games before the playoffs and another potential(hopefully) 3-4 come playoff time so who knows if or how many more key guys we may lose. OTOH the same can be said for other teams, maybe we'll get lucky and we won't lose anybody else while other contenders do to make the playing field more even. In reality he hasn't been all that productive the past several weeks, he's basically only getting 3-4 yards a carry and hasn't had a run over 13 yards in 2 months. Given our offensive line that isn't all that impressive and I feel confident that we can get similar production from Reynolds and extra Gibbs carries. Quote
Motown Bombers Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 I want to see more of Vaki. He and Montgomery have the same size, ran the same 40, and both are elite tackle breakers. Vaki seems like the future Montgomery. 1 Quote

Yeah me too, when they drafted Vaki as a RB I figured he was going to take over for Montgomery after this year thats why I was surprised they handed out that extension to him. Quote

I was picking up my daughter at the airport yesterday and a traveller noticed my Lions hoodie and started beaming. She was visiting Vancouver from Ann Arbor and said her husband has the exact same hoodie, how exciting it is to be a Lions fans these days, etc. It was a nice exchange that put smiles on the faces of both of us. Meeting fellow Lions fans in Vancouver is still rare enough that when you do, there's an immediate connection. And at my sports bar, people love to come up and chat about the Lions, as one said to me the Lions are such a great story they think it's neat to talk to a real-life, actual long-time fan as up until a couple of years ago we all tended to be in the closet, lol Edited December 20, 2024 by lordstanley 1 Quote

RandyMarsh Posted December 20, 2024 Posted December 20, 2024 Weather forecast doesn't look too bad, partly cloudy with temps in the low 30s. Wind gusts from 10-20 mph though which could possibly pose a problem throwing the ball. Quote
