Biden actually gets out of Afghanistan after Pompeo and Trump unleashed the Taliban on the country and a suicide bomber on marines and civilians, and we get fanciful stories from the media about how easy it is to have an orderly withdraw from an active warzone.

Miller is doing what Miller wants. Trump, given his statements yesterday about farm and hospitality labor, appears to have zero clue what he wants and is just coasting.

Ultimately Trump bears the responsibility for what happens in his administration, but I don't think he's fully there TBH.

He got away with these things because he is a rich, white, male who was hyped up as being successful on a TV show back in the 2000s. Kamala Harris literally worked at a McDonald's as a summer job but they derided, mocked, and called her a liar. If Barack Obama or Kamala Harris had put on a hat and vest and did a McDonald's drive thru stunt Republicans and the media would call them Michael Dukakis and laugh at it.

I used to be 100% against making fun of and chiding people with personal insults, but the facts are that they work. I was 100% opposed to the tactics Newsome used in his press conference, but it is effective I think. Democrats, like what Newsome did last night, need to fight back harder and get more down in the mud. Michelle Obama's old adage of "When they go low, we go high" is dated and doesn't work in today's politics. We need more of what Newsome did last night from Democratic leaders. And if someone insults the fact that Trump is the size of a blimp in a parade, ok.

yes.  The game has changed and the Democrats need to adjust to that change.  The problem they face though is the hard left will not fall in line so what the D's gain the center or whatever is lost on the left.

Miller is the perfect little Trumpkin.  The bigotry, the cruelty, the complete loyalty to his boss, makes an occasional appearance to show that he's an asshole, but mostly stays in the background and doesn't take the spotlight from his boss.  I am sure Trump's sons are jealous.

Agreed... two other things to consider as to why what Newsom is doing is effective:

1. Trump isn't getting any younger, the contrast between the two is noticable. Including in energy levels (often the thing that the media uses to excuse concerns about Trump's age)
2. Trump is a narcissist (not a clinical diagnosis, but clear from his personality); the best way to cut people like that down to size is through ridicule.

I still can't stand the guy, but he's threaded the needle of expressing the seriousness of the situation while ridiculing Trump (and his subordinates) in a way that no D has so far. I have to credit him for that.

What makes it really difficult to change is the tendency for Democrats to doom and be relentlessly negative all the time as well. 

The situation is clearly terrible and we all don't know what the future holds, but pushing back requires people to be able to set aside their anxieties and play on his level.

One thing I like about Newsom is that he's not afraid to go after red states. Republicans **** on blue states constantly and Dems are afraid to go after states like West Virginia and Mississippi. Newsom will not shy away from pointing out how red states have higher crime.

I agree with your points here about why Newsom is effective. Frankly, honestly, if Newsome were a little less smug and arrogant himself AND was from a non-costal state I think he'd be a really solid, serious choice for Democrats in 2028. But being a costal liberal from California will be a no-go for Democrats I feel after Harris losing. I think Dems will end up nominating a midwestern or southern candidate for President in 28. That said, Newsom has been effective thus far it feels like. We will see if the people ultimately agree on the whole.
