A word to my friends:  Sometimes we respond to a primal scream with something heartfelt and detailed.  Sometimes we respond with a nod.  I do it, others do it.  We just need to recognize that is what is happening.   "I got you" responses or reacts are sometimes just fine.

A lot of this forum is just primal screaming.  We have to share with someone the awful just to register if for the moment that we see it.

There are other times when we have a notion that we aren't sure others are seeing.  I ask for patience in those instances as well.

Sometimes during special crazy periods.  We can be like a Lions game thread.  I hope we aren't held to be too accountable for those times.

Marco said it was a new era for world now with Trump and Orban leading the way.

Hopefully Peter Magyar beats that fat fascist **** Orban. I am part Hungarian-American, so I've taken an interest in Hungarian politics during Orban's reign of terror. Peter Magyar isn't a left or left-leaning politician by any means. He's not the type of person I would normally vote for. But he does seem to be pro-democracy and anti-corruption. Even though he's a former member of Orban's Fidez party, I'd still take him and trust him over Orban's brand of fascism were I a Hungarian voter. The polling has gone back and forth. It seems Magyar is ahead in some polling. Not sure what polling is valid and what is just Orban and Fidez propaganda.

One thing Trump did is make countries like Canada realize they don't need the US as much as they thought they did. Make Canada Great Again!

Communist tend to stick together.

Venezuela also had Chinese JY-27A and JYL-13D radars deployed that were rendered useless…

He's still clueless. I'm sure he thinks he's being both noble and clever but all he's really doing is keeping himself irrelevant - which given his ineptitude is probably for the best. I still sort of have sympathy for him having gotten in so far over his head. He clearly didn't have the intellect to manage his own admin and so in multiple areas he became the tool of people he should have thrown out of the oval office. Plus he completely poisoned the well for his brother, who was one of the people that might have been able to help shepherd the GOP back to sanity - had he ever gotten the chance.

This country is a ****ed up mess right now, but let's not lose the football.

A good way to start fixing it is the 800 pound gorilla in the room - The Epstein files. There was a poll asking who should be the first two people arrested. Easy; the first, the last and ever other sick **** in between. Nothing else is acceptable.

They are the big club.

I had the most interesting conversation with my neighbor today while we were chipping away at ice still blocking the corners of our blocks after that storm of a couple weeks ago.  He's Indian-American who works in some military medical projects he couldn't discuss.  He brought up that China attacked India while the Soviets were distracted by the Cuban Missile crisis.  The Soviets had a tenuous alliance with India and were starting to dislike (Khrushchev and Mao were oil and water) the direction of the PRC.  He said that he worries that Iran will be the distraction for us that might give Xi (who just got rid of the one person in Zhang Youxia telling him not to attack Taiwan) the chance to attack Taiwan.

We were talking about arms control being an impossibility in a situation in which nobody trusts each other and there are no efforts to have confidence-building.   To Trump, to Putin its all gangsterism.  Xi might be willing to sign up to a rules-based order but nobody can trust the order if more than one of the lynch pins is totally unreliable.

Epstein was first busted in like 2008. It didn't start then. Over the years, so many knew, and did nothing.

It's bigger than just the horrors of child abuse, but that part should enough to unite every mother and father who has a son or daughter (I'm sure both were abused by these sick ****s) no matter of political leanings.

well, we've got one guy preventing that from happening. Can this stuff be the one thing that sticks to him with his supporters when nothing else has? Who knows, but judging by how long he's kept the lid on it so far, I'm not holding my breath.

I think the sane side does themselves a disservice by adhering to old unwritten rules that the insane side just ignores.   The not criticizing the successor is one of them.   Obama does the same thing.

To me, when you refuse to act civilly, you forfeit the right to be treated civilly. On an individual level, there may always be an ethical imperative to "turn the other cheek" but for society as whole, the first obligation is to re-establish justice, equity and protection of the powerless, and if accomplishing that requires that those who turned their back on civility be treated uncivilly, so be it.

The 'ends' doesn't justify the 'means' is wonderful social theory, but at a societal level it only works when there is a consensus to stay in the system. By definition, the approved rules of constraint in the system may be powerless on those that have taken themselves out of it, while the moral imperative to stop them remains.
