This is Marjorie Taylor Green's district.

a 10 pt loss is still a big loss. Moral victories on margins are meaningless until they happen in districts where it matters.

Georgia is a state that matters. With a senate and governor election coming up, an over performance like this easily hands it to the Democrats. It also puts pressure on Republicans in more moderate districts who have lost.

It is too bad Johnson isn't up this cycle because he'd probably be toast.

Johnson only won by 1% last time and Dems didn't invest much in Wisconsin. It's a bloodbath in Wisconsin right now.

No, you don't understand, we just have to be patient and we will see the victory emerge....or so we were told.

We just have to wait until the talking points come down so expect something about either a trans, immigrant, or something vaguely similar a Democrat did that one time in a similar but completely different scenario.

So all this amounted to was that we have given Bibi the free use of the worlds most expensive lawn mower for 30 days (which we get back with its blade seriously dulled) so he could extend his 'forever war' just a little further out before it becomes the failure it will inevitably be.

Can you imagine...how badly he would manage a Taiwan crisis?   The power dynamic would be all off.  The bluster wouldn't work at all.  These situations have real world consequences, and he is just so damn willfully ignorant of anything that doesn't give him an endorphin hit right now.

It's possible that there were back channel discussions by the GOP leadership telling him that he had gone too far.  I am not comforted by the fact that this hasn't leaked yet.

Nothing that transpired yesterday changes the trajectory of a massive bloodbath for the GOP in November.   It will be shocking and delightful to see some established figures lose.   Looking at you Disney Princess in South Carolina.

He clearly just wants to get out of the war and claim victory.  It will work with his voters and most of the country's shallow incompetent media.

If Jon Ossoff loses GA 14 by 10 in November, he's winning the state overall by more than 10 points. That's why it matters. These by-elections aren't about moral victories, certainly not in districts that Trump won by 30+ in 2024... they are a signal to where the electorate sits right now, just as polls are also a signal as to the electorate

The dynamics are different in a special election, but this was a massive overperformance. And I doubt the folks who actually do politics for a living for the GOP in Georgia are sitting around in private saying "a win is a win" to soothe themselves.

I would add to that the shift is really similar to the one we saw in Wisconsin last night, whether there was a win or not. It was a bad result for the Georgia GOP full stop

Speaking of China. I tend to believe there were probably some quiet but powerful threats of economic retaliation from that quarter if Trump didn't end this. Of course, the Chinese being as subtle as Trump is lurid, they'll be perfectly happy if no-one ever knows.
