MAGA is the ultimate combination of grifters, racists, nihilist, useful idiots, and just plain weird and nasty trash. a basket of deplorables. At least in its current form, and we can no longer simply vote our way back to whatever we nostalgically regard as normal. At this point it’s probably going to take something very dramatic (or drastic, take your pick) to change things for the better on a permanent basis, and it’s well within the range of outcomes that a frightening number of us—both old and young—may not be alive to see it. Congress decides what the SC non-constitutional jurisdiction is, so start limiting their ability to review the things you know they are going to screw with need to fix House of Representatives. add 50% more seats. Texas, Fla, NY, Illinois, and Cali will benefit the most. need to have more Reps for 330M people. need to fix EC. impossible. ****ty red states would never give up their advantage of having land vote for presidents. need to round up MAGA trash and eject them straight into the sun. Dems lack the will and balls to get this done, terrified of what the RW media will say about them, terrified of being seen as not "reaching across the aisle". institutionalists will preach moderation, deliberateness, and of course cooperation with people who are trying (and succeeding) in destroying the country Dems will not save us from MAGA. no one will. The monster in the room is citizens united. Its allowing Orban and Putin to fund all sorts of terrible things. There is no returning to normality as defined by anyone. The only path is synthesis as taught by the harsh lessons of this criminal gang in power right now. Quote

Especially likely since under the terms of the settlement, the government has no responsibility for “the protection or safeguarding” of the funds once they have been placed into the account, including any issues related to bank errors or crimes, like fraud, that may be committed with the money. The fund will also be managed by a six-person commission, five of whom will be appointed by the Trump-appointed attorney general, and any of whom can be unilaterally removed by Trump at any time for any or no reason. Comply? As if. well, the dumb part about the War Powers act is that the President can veto the resolution, which then means it you need an override super majority - which ain't gonna happen anyway. We used to think that having a Constitution instead of just a precedent guided Parliament like Britain was an advantage. I just don't think it's true anymore. The US Constitution and its recent SCOTUS interpretations are hindering US democracy far more than they are helping to achieve it. Edited 2 hours ago by gehringer_2 Quote

Probably because they treat the Constitution like MAGA Christians treat the bible: they embrace the parts that make them feel good, and they ignore the rest. 1 Quote

chasfh Posted 1 hour ago Posted 1 hour ago From the story: Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche made clear Wednesday that the conduct of January 6, 2021, rioters who attacked law enforcement will be factored when the soon-to-be-set-up commission reviews applications to the anti-weaponization fund. “One of the factors the commissioners have to consider is what the claimant did — the claimant’s conduct,” Blanche told CNN’s Paula Reid in an interview Wednesday. “The claimant would have to say, ‘I assaulted a cop and I want money.’” “Whether the commissioners will give that person money – that claimant – it’s up to them. But that’s one of the factors they have to consider,” he continued, adding that Trump “does not stand for assaulting law enforcement.” Blanche said he couldn’t fully rule out the possibility that someone who was violent toward officers [would not receive payments], saying it was up to the commissioners. “So, whether the commissioners will give that person money, that claimant, it’s up to them,” he said. Translation: If you assaulted a Capitol cop to overturn the election and reinstall Donald Trump as president, then congratulations and look for a check in the mail. Quote
