If you look at the stats, surprisingly, they aren't far off from top 3.  Offensive numbers have really dropped this year.  Buxton should probably be ahead of Baez, but has only played 60 games.  Greene is 3rd among AL OF in OPS behind Judge and Buxton.  Baez is 5th in OPS (Grishom is 4th).

Baez will likely make the game on the bench.  His versatility will probably factor into the decision on some other possible bench players.

That's why some folks were thinking McKinstry might make it. At one point, he had a high OBP.  Utility players, who can play decent defense, are pretty valuable these days.

The All Star game is simply a popularity contest in some cases. Is Greene the 2nd best outfielder in the AL? And Javy the 3rd best? Yeah, I don't think so.

It's not a great seasion for AL outfielders.  Top 3 outfielders by FanGraphs WAR:

Judge 6.0

Buxton 3.1

Greene 2.6

So, in the next three games with the Athletics at home, it’s Skubal then Flaherty then TBD. I’m getting gun shy about this “opener“ thing.

I saw an article this morning where Hinch was quoted as saying he's still using an opener. After Olson gets back, he'll probably just do it for games Sawyer starts.

WAR is a good way to look at the quality of some players. If (when) Greene cuts down in his strikeouts, he could become a superstar. His month of June has been very impressive.

I guess the debate has finally been settled whether Jeimer was good hitter having some bad stretches or a bad hitter who had had a couple good stretches. Plus he's 31, which is the leading edge of when the unluckiest genomed hitters start to lose it. He always seemed like a good guy, just wasn't the player it sometimes looked like he might have been.

Padres paid a posting fee and gave him two years guaranteed last year. Dumped him on the Marlins in the Arraez deal, and the Marlins DFA him shortly after.

Owens and Vanasco are out right now. Balazovic hasn't pitched since June 3, so I suspect there is an IL stint that didn't make the transactions logs there. Riley Unroe has pitched a bunch lately. Also, late June is heavy opt out season, so I see why they wanted to add an arm.

Enns is coming up to start Thursday. He has an opt out on July 1, but has pitched pretty well. Interestingly enough, his contract allows him to declare major league free agency after the year, but the Tigers have a multimillion dollar team option they can pick up. It's clear they thought there was something here.

How many Dietrich's have the Tigers had on their roster over the years?   None... Detroit Tigers all-time roster - Wikipedia

This is a heck of a long road he's been on...and all that time he was just on his journey...home.

It turns out he was the last winner of the Knights cross of the Iron Cross with oak leaves and diamonds and refused to be evacuated from East Prussia and spent time after capture in the infamous Lubyanka Prison in Moscow.   I wonder if MLB will allow him to pitch with the monocle.

I'm wondering who gets dropped from the 40.  Maybe Kreidler?  If the group  from WM are going to move up, then some of the group from Erie is going to need to also and Cruz looks like he could take Kreidler's spot and even Anderson could take Ibanez' if they ended up moving him.  I don't think they will yet, but other than the playoff series, he's been awful since early August both in Detroit and Toledo.

I am wondering if they have seen enough of Carlos Hernandez.
