Get your hands on SNs from the 30s through the 60s, especially, and you will see what I mean.

I have seen individual artices from those years, but not the entire publication.  They do go more in depth, although what I was looking for as a kid in the 70s was probably different from what I would want if I were doing research now.

speaking of 'finally', have they released any statement about Cobb?  He had a couple of short outings and then nada. He threw for WM on June 6 which means his rehab assignment is about expired but his Tiger MLB page says nothing about going back to the IL.

Also Lange in 5 MiLB outings has 8K 1BB 1R, FB has been 95~96. Has not worked two days back to back yet.

The All-Star game used to mean a lot to me in ye olden days before interleague play was common, especially when the NL had the disturbing habit of beating up on the AL which I found personally humiliating.

The only other times when the two leagues met was in spring training, which didn’t matter, and the World Series. So in relation to that, the All-Star game was special.

It doesn’t feel like that big of a deal to me anymore. It seems to be more about marketing than street cred, and being interested in street cred itself is pretty lame, but it’s better than marketing.

As a kid, all of the sports all-star games were more important than Christmas, and baseball was at the top. The first one I watched was the best ever - 1971. I was enamored with Reggie Jackson after that game

But I really like interleague play. It’s a lot better than playing the other four teams in your own division 72 times a year.

I agree. Having the intra-division games now down to 13 is what I prefer as a fan

I would prefer no divisions and a balanced schedule.  However, If there are going to be divisions, I want to see more divisional play.  Otherwise, there is no point in having divisions.  Yeah, I know...marketing.  But marketing is evil.

The Tigers announced a pair of roster moves this morning. They’ve selected the contract of left-hander PJ Poulin to the 40-man roster and optioned him to Triple-A Toledo. Left-hander Sean Guenther was recalled from Triple-A and placed on the 60-day injured list to make room for Poulin on the 40-man roster. According to Evan Woodbery of MLive, Poulin had an upward mobility clause in his contract and the Tigers opted to add him to their 40-man roster in order to keep him in their organization.

Hunter Brown and Framber Valdez having career seasons for HOU. Either or both or them may or may not regress in the 2nd half. And that can certainly be said for Skubal as well.

So here is one I've never seen before. Minor league game, bases loaded. Batter hits a ground ball to short which is a tailor made DP ball. Runner on 2nd fields the ball, giving himself up via interference but preventing the double play. Umps did make the runner who went home go back to 3rd. 🤣

The divisions are there to keep fan interest in multiple races. Winning a division means making a playoff. But too many fans call it a pennant race and it's only winning the pennant after winning the ALCS. (Or NLCS).  I would much rather play a balanced schedule than to play our boring division teams 15 times each, or however many they play.

It doesn't always work that though.  This year, in the AL, it looks like there might be just one divisional race.  If you take away the divisions, it looks more like there are a bunch of teams playing for playoff spots.  It's less confusing that way too.  I don't like having to switch between division standings and wild card standings to know where everyonre stands.  I would rather just look at the whole league and I know where everyone stands.

With three wild cards, they had to balance the schedules out a bit.

But once you get to three wildcards, half the playoff teams will not be division winners and the third division winner does not even get a bye.  So, I say get rid of divisions and just take the top 6 teams.

I prefer balanced schedules.  It’s nice to be able to see all of the stars of the league come to Comerica more than once every 3–5 years.

We still play the divisional teams more often than everyone else.  It was an absolute slog to watch us play the same four teams in a third of all of our games.

When we played the other teams in our division 44.4444444% that was truly excruciating, and when the Tigers really sucked, and we had a spate of games in September against the teams we were tired of at the end of the season because we were allegedly in some sort of “race“ it was really bad.

I was trying to think of which visiting player I have seen play the most in person and I’m guessing it’s Sal Perez or Jim Thome because of those years of unbalanced schedules.  Maybe Joe Mauer.

Did a quick check - looks like Mize will be up for FA the same time as Skubal. If Mize has back to back very good years the Tigers could be looking at losing the top of their rotation. Just going to enjoy this ride and trust Harris
