IdahoBert Posted Monday at 07:50 AM Author Posted Monday at 07:50 AM I thought Skubal would be pitching the Apple TV Friday night game against the Mariners this week because it would be five days since his last start. But this is not the case, because there’s an off day between series so instead of his next start being Friday it will be Saturday. He’s pitching every five games NOT every five days. Jason Beck says Saturday is currently his next scheduled start. If he were pitching every five days it would also means he’d be pitching on an additional day’s rest for the All-Star game. I was really looking forward to him being on a national broadcast because it’s always a treat to see the announcers gush about him and our other players. And it’s an additional treat because this series will be blacked out for me on mlb.tv because I live in Mariners territory in the Northwest, but this Apple TV game will not be blacked out for me. Will the Tigers finagle their usual patterns of operation to attain the higher social good of having him pitch on Friday night’s national broadcast as well as engineer an extra day’s rest for the All-Star game? IdahoBert Posted Monday at 08:44 AM Author Posted Monday at 08:44 AM I also just discovered that rain is in the forecast for much of this next week in Detroit. Color me not at all surprised. But this is getting really tedious. Quote

Maybe Joe Mauer. Hah, I have only been to five games at Comerica and now I am curious how many repeat opposing players I have. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted Monday at 10:59 AM Posted Monday at 10:59 AM I went to the most games between 04-08 so for me it would almost assuredly be somebody in the division from that time frame. Thome and Mauer come to mind as does Grady Sizemore. Sizemore played in all but 3 games from 05 to 08 so he was likely playing every time he was here during those years. Quote
Edman85 Posted Monday at 11:54 AM Posted Monday at 11:54 AM I found one player who has played for the opponent in multiple Comerica games I went to: Seth Smith. Quote

I hope not because I canceled Apple TV. Too many streaming services. YouTube TV, Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime and FDS get all my business. Quote
RandyMarsh Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Posted Monday at 10:32 PM Just a random thought but I wonder if Greene is under any consideration for the HR Derby and if we would do it if invited? I know some think it can screw up your swing but Riley's swing is naturally tailored for it so he really shouldn't have to change anything for it. Quote

I don't think we have any backlog of games to play, which is unusual. Quote

These power rankings are bull**** and not worth getting worked up over, but I think the first 3 games of the season, especially when the Dodgers had the advantage of already having a couple of regular season games under their belts when they faced us, should be immaterial. I guess I look at it differently. I think tiers of teams rather than an absolute order. Both the Tigers and Dodgers are top tier, and I’d probably add the Astros, Phillies, Cubs, Mets, and Blue Jays in some semblance, although I could see where maybe the Mets and Blue Jays fall into the next tier. The Brewers are around in there, too. Quote

Hongbit Posted 16 hours ago Posted 16 hours ago It’s obliviously some type of flaw in the formula that is accounting too much for SB and giving too much credit for just being able to be in the lineup every day to get plate appearances. Quote

He also has a much higher DRS (which is what b-ref uses for the defensive component) than Greene this year. Quote

If you compare them by OWAR which takes hitting and position into account, then Greene has the lead 2.8 to 2.1. So, the big difference is fielding. B-Ref uses the DRS statistic: Rodriguez 12 runs better than average (roughly 1.2 WAR) and Greene -2 runs worse than average. That is a huge difference. Is Rodriguez really that much better defensively this year? Looking at the statcast numbers, Rodriguez is 9 outs better than average and Greene is average (0). Fangraphs has Greene with 3.0 overall WAR and Rodriguez 2.4. FanGraphs has used UZR for WAR in the past, but they are not showing any data for 2025. So, I am not sure what they are doing this year - either they are still using UZR and they are just not showing us or they are using a different stat now. Quote
