As a kid I wore out The Year of the Tiger '68 LP.  At the 5:57 mark Ray calls Kaline's 307th homer which passed Hank Greenberg as the all-time Tigers' HR leader and at the 22:37 mark Ray calls a Gates Brown extra inning walkoff homer.

I think I still have that somewhere

Each of the Tigers-Guardians games Tuesday-Thursday are set for 1:08pm ET. If the Tigers advance they would play in Seattle next Saturday and Sunday, at Comerica on Tuesday Oct 7 and if necessary Wednesday October 8. The ALDS Game 5 would be on Friday October 10 in Seattle.

Maybe playing the odds with every at bat - which is a make do thing born from expediency - is a scotch tape and paper clip thing that isn’t infinitely sustainable, especially when the guys you really rely upon falter and teams have figured out how to pitch to them. Add to that relievers who are really failed starters also get figured out.

Shameless plug...

With the 2025 regular season complete, this quiz has been fully updated.  There have now been 161 players who have appeared in at least one game with the Tigers in the 2020s...how many can you remember?

For your convenience, other decades...
2010s
2000s
1990s
1980s
1970s
1960s
1950s

I don't want to remember a lot of those players in a lot of those years. 😅😅

Is this the thread where you postseason rosterbate?

If it is, I think it is open and shut for the first series.

Out: Paddack, Rainey, Sewald

In: Horn

Post latest expansion, I wonder what organizations have the biggest overlap between players?  We joke about the Smith era Tigers always trading with the Padres for example.

At this point, I'm not as fixated on the playoff result. These are going to be  high leverage low scoring games. The teams that makes more contact is probably going to win...that's probably Cleveland.

I want to see what lessons they learn moving forward. They need more contact guys offensively and fewer contact guys on the staff.

Are there restrictions on the number of hitters and pitchers you can carry?

Can you carry fewer pitchers and more position players if you want?

Yes. And most teams do, especially in the wild card round.

Why would we keep Keider rostered for this series?  Horn should be up, otherwise we have to potentially navigate 3 games with just two lefties in the pen, and it potentially limits Holton to one inning appearances.

He will be full rest by Game 3 in case you need a long man that day.

That makes sense.  Can’t have Hurter or Holton be long relief in case you need them the next game for matchups.  Plus it’s gives Hinch a lot more flexibility with how to utilize Melton.

I would rather see Melton start game 2 if we win game one and use Flaherty in relief….even if Flaherty starts and does well, we will probably be in the bullpen by the 5th inning—-which is not ideal for us.

Okay...

Parsing the rules, I don't think they can put Horn on the roster because he is inside his 15-day Option window. He would need to replace a pitcher who has been injured since he was sent down. Same thing is true of Urquidy (even though there's no smoke around him being around the roster) or Jung (except it would need to be a position player).

Also, if Skubal wants to ask for 400 mil next offseason, I’m gonna need to see a minimum of 8 shutout innings tomorrow.

Yup.  Don't get cute facing Cleveland.  Its not a good lineup aside from Ramirez and Kwan.

Even Kwan is not so good offensively.  He doesn't strike out, but he had a .705 OPS.  The Tigers had a far better offense most of the season.  They need to get Greene, Torkelson and Carpenter back on track.  The only area where the Indians are superior is the bullpen.

Primary Skubal objective with Kwan:  Don’t let him torpedo your pitch count.

His OPS is approx 2.587 vs Detroit.  Don't bother looking it up, we all know its true.

I did look it up, and this does not include last year's ALDS. Career .701 OPS vs the Tigers. I only post this because that is much lower than I thought.
