Someone from the Yankees front office said they inquired and Harris asked for "half of the team" in return. He's pitching in Detroit, at least through the trade deadline

And he should ask for half of someone else’s team. It shouldn’t be us desperately trying to unload Skubal for anything we can get because we’re mad at Scott Boras.

Plus it would have to be a ridiculous offer that makes us better this year, or at least the same as before. Even Sports Freak would call Scott Harris a genius if he could pull that off! 🤣

Not taking the bait.

But who thinks Skubal's price went up with Tucker getting $60m per? Tarik now looking for $500m over 10 years? His price will only go up, if he has another Cy Young type season. Can you imagine his price if he wins the Cy Young Award for a 3rd straight year? That possibility has my head spinning.

I don't see how Tucker having to sign a shorter deal makes it more likely Skubal gets 10.  He may be more likely to get 5 years $300 than previously thought (still think that is unlikely) but I think this offseason (Tucker & Bichette) has shown it's less likely he gets 10 years.

I'm not sure he would want 5/300 if he wants to re-enter the market, since he would be age 35 doing so. I'd think he'd prefer something like 8/400.

It wasn't bait, honest. More of a hit and run joke. I honestly fretted that you might misunderstand and up the ante somehow, because I didn't want to have to deal with it. Appreciate that you didn't.

I agree he'd probably prefer that, but if Tucker and Bichette couldn't get long term deals they wanted (Tucker was supposedly offered 10/$350), then who is to say the teams that would spend $50/yr would be willing to go 8 years on Skubal for the very reason you said (Age).

Skubal wanted $400m/10 years before Tucker signed for $60m per year. I really think Skubal is looking for one contract to finish out his career. 8 to 10 years...at $50m per year? I'm pretty sure he'll get that if he has close to the same year as he's had the last 2 years. Especially if he leads the Tigers to a championship. Dodgers, Mets or Yankees. With Boston or Toronto a possibility

He can look for all he wants.  If teams aren't willing to go 10 years at $40-50/yr (which they weren't for Tucker), then he may have to decide if he wants a shorter term $50-60/yr deal or a 10 year $30-35/yr deal

Depending how the CBA turns out, Boras will hold out all winter, until early spring, looking to cash in. Tucker signed pretty early, considering. At $60m per year, 4 years is perfect for him. He can sign another 4 to 6 year contract afterwards. He just turned 29 years old.
