And to the 2nd part, actually, value for players like Skubal usually goes up the closer you get to the deadline as teams have more clarity as to whether they are in or out, and have more time to bid against each other. You think Jahmai Jones is more worth keeping around than a flyer on a guy with a 2.00 ERA and a sub 1.10 WHIP? I'd rather take a risk on a reliever that may be of help. Trade someone like Hanniffee to free up space. Even if you get hardly anything. Worth keeping a look at guys with good numbers in AAA. Heck even if you got back a AA or High A guy for a relief pitcher..... Quote
chasfh Posted July 6 Posted July 6 I can imagination the reaction if we would have added Go and Seelinger to the roster and they came in and stunk up the joint. 2 1 Quote

Could of very well happened..... https://prospectsavant.com/player/808970 - A lot of Red to give up for literally nothing though..... I'd rather have taken a flyer on him. Seelinger, I could care less about. Quote
monkeytargets39 Posted July 6 Posted July 6 After the trash we got from the Verlander trade, I’m not letting the Astros sniff Skubal 1 Quote

I do think Jones should be waived, but think it's much more likely Anderson takes his place on the 40 if he is than one of those 2. Quote

AlaskanTigersFan Posted July 7 Author Posted July 7 I wonder if we have a bad week, once the draft takes place and teams get more higher end picks that they can move, then Skubal will be on the move. I really am starting to believe that Harris will move players but wants a chance for teams to increase their bounty that they can offer that will include some players from this years draft. Could get interesting soon. Quote

Day after the WS ends. But they can be listed as a PTBNL. Much like the Arizona trade for Dansby Swanson way back when. Quote

tiger2022 Posted July 11 Posted July 11 They should try to win every year but some of Avila's players are soon going to be FA'S. Harris can only live off the fruit of someone else's labor for so long. Quote
chasfh Posted July 12 Posted July 12 FWIW, per Bob Nightengale: https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/columnist/bob-nightengale/2026/07/12/mlb-all-star-break-second-half-storylines-trade-deadline/90886326007/ Skubal has informed friends that he badly wants to stay in Detroit the rest of the season, believing they have a legitimate shot at the World Series, and has zero appetite to be traded. "I’ve never lost faith," Skubal says. Quote
Hongbit Posted July 12 Posted July 12 (edited) That’s a load of ****. If that’s what Skubal “badly” wanted, it could be easily accomplished. He would also get to stay here for the rest of his career and also become the highest paid pitcher in baseball. Ilitch will pay him a mint. It just won’t be as much as the deferring loopholers in LA can. Sadly, what he really wants is to make the absolutely most money possible and do whatever Boras tells him to do. I don’t blame him for wanting the payday. That’s his prerogative but don’t pretend like he doesn’t have all the control. He does. Edited July 12 by Hongbit Quote

Tampa, Milwaukee, WSox and several other teams trade away or let players walk who are going to be very expensive. It's....just the way it is. Quote
