So much to take away from this morning's standings in Reference:

2025-05-08_9-13-49.thumb.jpg.c77232d5aaf0c8aa6fc85c31d11bc9fe.jpg

  • Second best record in baseball
  • Best pythag WL in baseball
  • Positive record against all AL divisions
  • Tied for best home record and solidly .500 on the road
  • Underwater in extra innings and one-run games means they are even more dominant than we think
  • Equally tough on righties and lefties
  • Holding serve with good teams and beating up on teams they should be
  • Super consistent winning records in the last 10, 20, and 30 games.

I know, a lot can happen in the next 126 games. But so far, this is the team I have been waiting for all my life.

Is Skubal not the game 2 starter?  Or are we going with Montero?

The Tiger PR office is selling tickets based off Skubal being our Friday night starter.

Montero. If Mize and Skubal both started one of them would have to turn around and pitch on shorter rest to separate their spots in the rotation again.

I was thinking last night that we definitely need to use some kind of high-altitude multiplier in that stadium.

To give you an idea of how bad the Rox offense is, they are 28th in MLB in OPS and 29th in runs per game, and they play half their games in an historically inflated run environment.

But, also, they have played nine of their 19 road games so far in three of the top seven run-inflated ballparks this season (Rays, Phillies, and, believe it or not, Dodgers), plus four more at a run-neutral ballpark in SF. Only in Kansas City and San Diego have they played in the kind of depressed run environments they can point to and say, yeah, that's a big reason right there we haven't been scoring runs this season.

So Jobe was the reason they scored 6 runs last night. Not surprising...many rookie pitchers are inconsistent. He'll have better games...

They showed the graphic last night how much less his slider was moving and needless to say, both homers were off it

That makes sense, they just seemed to be billing it as Skubal was going to pitch today.

No disrespect to the man but knowing he was JW I'll share the great JW joke from "Community"

Originally, he was supposed to. After Mize is his turn. But the rainout messed with the pitching schedule.

Me too.  You don't hear as much about Lemon because he was surrounded by so much talent, but he was really good.  Almost Hall of Fame quality.  It's going to be difficult seeing the 1980s stalwarts pass away.  I believe he is the first big star of the 1984 team to die.  Aurelio Lopez passed away a few years ago, but it didn't have quite the same impact.

Dwight Lowrey died young, Tigers still played in Tiger Stadium, they flew a DL flag on the pole for him.

yeah, I forgot about them.  Hernandez was certainly a star but also kind of a "one year wonder", so not as much impact.
