The most likely scenario is he is optioned back when his rehab assignment times out (August 19). That would require a 40-man move, but that was done yesterday when Jackson was DFA'ed.

I haven't tracked his pitch location charts since he's come back from the set-back. Before that I was a little bit and his velocity was good and he seemed to on his way back but I couldn't tell you anything beyond his numbers recently.

When do we check up on the bullpens of teams that bought relievers at the deadline?

Yeah, other than us, the only one whose doing well is Duran.

i was disappointed we didn’t get Jax or Bednar for what they went for, and hoped we’d get more swing and miss guys, but Finnegan has done great in that regard.  I definitely wasn’t on the Fire Harris train and was glad we got all we did for the minimal we gave up.

i really liked Morton for his versatility, experience, high K’s and low cost.

Finnigan and especially Morton have been a nice surprise.  I didn't expect anything from Morton. I will stand by my comment that you can't build a WS contender and championship team from waivers and those are the players Harris likes to pick up.  Tigers are back to winning but I don't have a lot of faith in the pitching staff to get them deep in the playoffs.  I hope they prove me wrong.

Morton was actually pitching pretty well the previous couple months.  He was just so awful the first 6-8 weeks his numbers didn’t show it.  And he was showing really good K/9 as well.

The best reliever picked up at the deadline might be Dietrich Enns...

lol, that might be a bit far.  Duran has been great overall as has Finnegan for us.  But definitely get your point.

More data from the proving grounds supporting the hypothesis that just about any major leaguer could perform like an All-Star if they get into the right system.

And to Edman’s point, Enns’ 3.31 ERA in 10 appearances for Baltimore is solid.

Here’s a wee bit more context, offered without further comment.

Well...

That shows Finnegan and Montero with unsustainable BABIP's...

Couple other comments:

Our two are still doing STUPENDOUS!!!

Regardless.

And: I would have loved one of Miller or Duran or Bednar... but not at the trade costs that it took.

Summary: Harris did GOOD (not superb... but very good...) at the deadline.

IMO.

And I'm glad he protected our top prospects.

Finnegan has been excellent.  Montero has not been so good and his ERA is misleading.  Miller, Duran and Bednar who were the guys most fans wanted have also been good.  To Harris's credit, Finnegan was less expensive.

I think Harris had a very good deadline.

Can't say that I agree.

Our SP is a trainwreck. And it's not like it's magically going to be better next year - adding Melton as a 4/5 might help the back end a little, but it won't move the needle for a time contender.

And for those saying the prospect cost would have been too high. I'd rather trade prospects for a pitcher with a decent contract vs. spend $250M on one in FA.

What Starting Pitching was available at the deadline that was under control for next year and was objectively bet†er than we currently have?

Depends on the prospects and the pitcher. Have any examples of what you would like?

None of which were traded likely due to the asking price.

Here's the list of free agent pitchers. It's piss poor. What's your plan to land a #2 pitcher who can help in the playoffs?

Dylan Cease, Zac Gallen, Framber Valdez, Chris Sale (club option), Michael King (mutual option), Jack Flaherty (opt-out), Justin Verlander, Jordan Montgomery, Shane Bieber (player option), Shota Imanaga (club option/player option), Max Scherzer, Clayton Kershaw, Brandon Woodruff (mutual option), Zach Eflin, Kodai Senga (opt-out), Ranger Suárez, Chris Bassitt, Walker Buehler (mutual option), Nestor Cortes, Jon Gray, Merrill Kelly, Frankie Montas (opt-out), Dustin May, Tyler Mahle, Freddy Peralta (club option), Nick Martinez, Marcus Stroman (vesting option), Lucas Giolito (club option), Aaron Civale, Kenta Maeda, Charlie Morton, Michael Lorenzen (mutual option), Germán Márquez, José Urquidy (club option), Tyler Anderson, Andrew Heaney, Kyle Hendricks, Steven Matz, Miles Mikolas, Chris Paddack, Erick Fedde, Alex Cobb, Tomoyuki Sugano, Jose Quintana (mutual option), Griffin Canning, Michael Soroka, Martín Pérez (mutual option), Colin Rea (club option), Cal Quantrill, Kyle Hart (club option), John Means (club option), Patrick Corbin, Kyle Gibson

I agree.  I expect us to sign a mid level FA, but I think our best options out of that bunch to find solid #2 and #3 to slide in behind Skubal are Olsen, SGL, Melton, a Flaherty who gets back to 2024 consistency, Mize taking another step and Jobe returning.  Other than trading for Ryan, (which I would be open to) I’d rather keep our prospects and not spend big $ on a FA starter.

Valdez, Imanaga, King (if he proves that he is healthy this month).  Cease and Senga have the talent to be aces with the right coaching.  Sale is very good, although not likely to be available.  Free agent lists are never deep, but I don't see this list as "piss poor".   Trades can be made too.
