It's pretty much the same bullpen as last year as far as talent level goes, but relievers are volatile.  There was no way this was going to work forever.

It has to be really hard for Hinch. One game, a relief pitcher is lights out and the next time out he stinks.

But It’s the same short porch for everyone playing.    Why would his odds be better than a Riley Greene, Brandon Lowe, or even Colt Keith?

Carpenter is due?  Is a better day time hitter?  Has a longer name?

Well, a slump was inevitable, but that doesn’t make it any more pleasurable. Hope they can pull out of it quickly and not give back too much ground, but it is a long long season.

I just have a feeling this is a bad series.  Get past it, get back to Detroit, take the next two home series against Oakland and Minnesota.

The whole division has gone kaput.  Just a few weeks ago there were 4 teams solidly above 500 and at one point held all three wild cards.  Only the Tigers have been able to maintain winning play until we came to this dark corner.

When does Skubal pitch again?  And can we go to a 4-man rotation?

We need to get Flaherty straightened out and Olson back. Is there any help down on the farm? I don't see Harris trading any of our top prospects for quality arms but maybe he will?

Is the box score wrong? It says Hurter was charged with 4 runs, all unearned. But no Tiger errors. Was it because of Rogers passed ball on a strike 3?

yes - I suppose it was as that would have been three outs before any runs scored.

On the plus side, the team ERA did not take a beating.

I guess I've never noticed unearned run(s) without there being an error(s). He still gets the loss though, I really hope Hinch gives up using a "starter." Our bullpen arms are just too unpredictable.

SGL gave up 3 HR, all on 2 strike counts, two on FB.   The pitch Jansen hit was pretty decent, change-up almost out of the zone down. Pitch to Caminero was a center cut mistake. It's always a question with these guys with good secondary stuff - is the FB good enough that when they throw it's not automatically hard contact.

I suppose it's not that odd to consider a passed ball an error for scoring purposes. A PB is just a catcher's error, it's just given a class of its own. I guess the question is why is it its own classification?
