Maybe we should stop sending him down to Toledo.

He's perfectly fine as a #5 starter. We need bullpen help and don't let these bullpen guys fool you with the last couple of good weeks. They're pretty inconsistent so looking good sometimes is just part of being inconsistent.

Specifically:

From April 30th through today:

.302 BA, .890 OPS, 6 HR's in 185 PA's. And 14 doubles and 3 triples.

Not huge power. But enough.

Yep, also a relatively low K rate of 18%, for reference if that were for the season that number would be among the top 30 in baseball among qualified hitters.

They pulled Montero after six innings even though he’d only thrown 68 pitches so my assumption is that when he gets very far into the third time through the batting order that he gets hit a lot harder I’m just guessing and I don’t know how to look this up.

Montero (on ESPN under "Splits"):

1st time through order .699 OPS

2nd time through order .855 OPS

3rd time through order .910 OPS

But I think his biggest problem is consistency... when he's having control problems or 1 of his 2 good pitches aren't working, he's terrible. When everything is working and he's hitting the strike zone...

He pitches gems...

Just an observation.

Right now, Cleveland is doing us the favor of beating the Astros 4–0 in the fifth. Ramirez hit a three run homer and the Guardians pitcher Bibee has held. the Astros hitless for four innings.

We're at 58 wins. We could be the first team to 60 wins. And getting to 60 wins before the All Star break? Amazing...

To clinch by the end of August, need to get that lead up to 24 games. Not impossible, lol.

At 58-34 with 70 to go, the Tigers could go 32-38 the rest of the way and still win 90 games. Play .500 the rest of the way and they win 93. To hit 100 wins they'll need to go 42-28 the rest of the way - that's a tall order but they're on pace. The division race is over so to me the rest is all about win totals and getting the #1 or #2 AL seed.

That sounds like every bullpen

It's not like there are no consistent relievers, just not many. Going into ST last season we were all ready for Lange and Foley to be the backend for a few years. Can only laugh at that now.

These reactions are hilarious.

I remember a game I was at back in 04 or 05, sitting about 10 rows back of the bullpen and Pudge hit a HR 2 rows behind me. Anyway I completely lost the ball in the sun about 3/4 of the way through but I knew it was tracking right towards us so I instinctively ducked and covered by head, the dude that it hit behind me didn't see it either and it hit his watch and destroyed it and cut up his wrist. When I got home I wanted to see the highlights just to see how pathetic I looked and luckily for me I wasn't the only one that lost it and ducked for cover.

Out of the hundreds of games I've been to in my life that was probably my closest chance at a HR ball, if I didn't lose it I surely would've been able to at least get my hands on it given my height and reach.

Odd outcomes: Montero has pitched better in Detroit than in Toledo. SGL has pitched better in Toledo than in Det. AAA results would argue SGL for the 5th spot over Montero, but it hasn't worked out that way - at least so far.

I decided to watch the last inning where Cleveland is hanging by the skin of their teeth over the Astros, 6–5 and thanks to a pitch clock violation Fry stayed alive and hit a home run to make it 7-5.

Still would like to hear what Diaz was thinking going to 2nd in the 1st inning. I guess the most logical assumption is that he thought he was such an easy force at 2nd that the best thing he could do was go easy and stay in the way of the return throw of a 3-6-3 DP attempt. The idea that it could be just be a 3-6 no force and he'd be a tag target apparently didn't enter his mind.

By the way, when I hit the Like on this comment, I meant to give the trophy not the laugh. I’m not laughing at this. It’s a very good post.

Those LF seats are total sun, directly in fans face, in the later evening. I had a friend with season tickets out there who tried to catch a Shefield line drive home run. We saw him on TV flub it and a few days later I was giving him the business for not hanging onto it. Then he lifted his shirt and showed me the bruise. It turns out it was so bad, his wife wanted him to go to the hospital. Yeah, I quit razzing him. 😅😅

Yep they are brutal, my friends and I got a season ticket package out there that year without having ever sit out there before. The team sucked then so as early 20 somethings we just went for the atmosphere and have a good time so not seeing the action the first few innings wasn't the end of the world for us but after that year we still made sure to switch to the RF bleachers the following few years we got packages.
