I did notice that in the truck commercial they kept showing that one of the good old boys with a truck had a Tigers cap on.

They also had a 1976 Michigan bicentennial license plate in one of the spots.

I use to LOVE the all-star game but as many have said, it has lost it's luster with the amount of interleague we play now.  Jonas brothers mid game song - worthless waste of time.  I could not believe all that EXTRA CRAP going on as they were introducing the teams and especially the starting line ups.  Total BS.  Manfred should be ashamed and embarrassed.

That’s the thing about baseball in general, and this game in particular: I just feel so relentlessly, endlessly marketed to. I don’t feel I’m treated like a fan so much as I’m part of a target audience.

Like on MLB.com when they give you a 30-second ad before playing the 15-second clip.

It’s almost like being the Tom Cruise character in Minority Report when he’s fleeing down the street and every digital board knows who the heck he is and is hailing him. It’s not that focused and personal, but it feels that pervasive and persistent.

I guess if the idea is to trivialize an exhibition game, and to make a point about how meaningless it is, this is just about the best way to do it.

https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/45750644/mlb-all-star-game-2025-swing-home-run-kyle-schwarber

"The rules were simple: NL manager Dave Roberts and AL manager Aaron Boone selected three players and one alternate to take three swings. The team with the most home runs wins the game. As nice as it would have been for Shohei Ohtani and Aaron Judge to participate, when they made their choices in the days leading up to the game, both managers selected players they anticipated would be warm from finishing on the field: Schwarber, Mets first baseman Pete Alonso and Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez for the NL, countering Brent Rooker of the A's, Mariners outfielder Randy Arozarena and Tampa Bay first baseman Jonathan Aranda."

"Boone and Roberts had a finite group from which to choose. Around half the players were gone from the stadium, already headed home after a long, hot week here."

Tarik Skubal was standing around watching the swing-off in his civvys. Even for an exhibition game, I don't quite cotton to that.

The money had already been counted.

It wouldn't surprise me if pitchers, after they are done, go through a treatment program and once they do that, then it is gross to go back and put your sweaty clothes back on.  He's a notorious sweater too.

Yeah but that had Bob Costas, Joe Morgan, and and a strike a month later.

I generally liked Costas as baseball broadcaster. Sure he was(is) a NY slappy, but he knew the game and had a lot of history in his head to draw from.

Up to a point in time but it seems post 1990's he got stuck and couldn't move forward with the game when he'd do gmaes on MLB Network.  It's like he assumed his audience hadn't watched a game in full since he had to when he was full time.

60 years ago some players who had been pulled early probably ended up in the dugout in civvies for the final inning or the two of the All Star Game. Difference is that while watching in civvies they’d have a cigarette in one hand and a rum and Coke in the other.

Just tuned into this thread for the first time, so sorry if this has already been said...

I hate the All-Star game and the break! I hate it that I don't have Tigers baseball for FOUR DAYS! I hate it that the Tigers almost never play on my birthday because of the dumb All-Star game!

(...rant over...)

I hear you all about Tarik and the civvies. Just, it doesn't really sit right with me, during a game that's still being contested. Strictly a me thing.

I thjnk that happens all the time. Not just during an ASG.

right. If he's with the team he probably has a clean uni, or at a team warm up jersey in the locker room to put on. But I'd guess - especially for a 1st timer, he probably only had one uni-with him, and  he's not going to put that back on after pitching in it.

The more relevant question is what does my Rottweiler feel about kids who step onto my lawn? 😉

I blew it! This was where I should have asked you what your Rottweiler thinks of what Skubal did.
