IdahoBert Posted Saturday at 01:50 AM Posted Saturday at 01:50 AM Matty finally delivers. I no longer feel like Drano awash with tiny razor blades is flowing through my system. Instead it’s the sweetest wine mixed by beautiful girls in Ithaca as Odysseus looks on approvingly. Quote

chasfh Posted Saturday at 02:05 AM Posted Saturday at 02:05 AM I love winning games after reading that people are on the verge of bailing on the team. 2 Quote
papalawrence Posted Saturday at 02:13 AM Posted Saturday at 02:13 AM I wish Dickerson was full time tv. Great to see Matt V take em home tonight. I'll never forget last season in their run, when Vierling scored and popped up waving his fist. They need his energy right now. Excellent win! 1 Quote
Sports_Freak Posted Saturday at 02:14 AM Posted Saturday at 02:14 AM Todd Jones just isn't good at his job. In 2 minutes, he "forget" who hit the late home run for the Angels. Then he congratulated Melton for his 1st major league win. Uhhhh...it was his 2nd win, Todd. Quote

This team is sometimes like Colonel Kurtz‘s tortured soliloquy in Apocalypse Now where he describes his state of mind as being akin to a snail slithering along the sharp edge of a straight razor and surviving. 1 Quote

IdahoBert Posted Saturday at 03:39 AM Posted Saturday at 03:39 AM I’m not going to dump on Jonesy. I think we might be setting the bar too high for TV. He’s a personality just as Johnny’s a personality and Daniella is a personality. And he has played the game which they haven’t, but I don’t think baseball players necessarily make great analysts - period. In my mind, he’s not a lot worse than just about anyone else who’s a former player. A lot of former player analysts just fill dead air with something other than dead air. With that as a yard stick I don’t expect much. Ordinary fans don’t have a lot going on upstairs. As some recommend go on more public sites or go on X and you’ll see what I mean. Ordinary people want to see former “stars.“ That’s considered good broadcasting. I would prefer to see thoughtful, creative nerds, and if they wanted to wear suspenders and bowties, or propellers on top of their heads, that would be OK but that’s not considered good television. As much as I can agree with this, I don't think Dan Dickerson would ever get hired as the primary PxP guy on TV. For one thing, he's too old; for another, he's too serious about the game. They want Millennials and Gen Zs who, sure, have at least a passing familiarity with the game, but who also can confidently riff on pop culture, confortably joke around with miked up players during the game—which is a lot harder when there's a span of two or more generations—and can unironically provide prop bet gambling odds in the moment. Something else I've noticed: he does not do sponsor reads with much relish. I'm sure employers notice this, too. Quote
