The slumping Milwaukee Brewers just got swept by the Cubs in a doubleheader and have now lost 3 of their past 4 games. Only the 2nd time since the 4th of July that they've lost consecutive games. They're 5 games ahead of the Tigers for best record in baseball.

And Valdez, Houston's SP, has given up 12 runs in his last ~18 innings. Pretty easy math...😅

OTOH, Framber has had a lot of success against the Tiger the last two seasons. Long term trend, meet short term trend.

Yeah, but the Houston bullpen is a mess and the Tigers is pretty fresh. Maybe Vest won't be available but a day off Thursday, at home, is priceless. Everybody rests. I like Detroit to win tomorrow afternoon.

Fun game to watch!

Since I followed this mostly on game day, I went back and watched the 10th on TV and I could’ve sworn I saw Kirk Gibson in the crowd at field level.

I saw that, too! don't know that it was him, but there was a strong resemblance.

Tigers still with the best record in the league, 8-2 in their last ten, 15-7 since the horrific swoon.

i think we’re back on the horse.

Sadly, probably an easy day tomorrow for Toronto. They go against Johan Oviedo who has thrown exactly one inning since coming off the DL from his TJ surgery last year. It's shapes up as a bullpen day for Pit with Oviedo as opener.

He looked leaner and perhaps healthier, which is possibly too much to hope for, but it sure looked like Kirk.

I know some people thought that complaints earlier in the season about empty seats behind home plate were silly, but c'mon, the crowd cheering the ball four added to the occasion. As did the mist.

Vest was pitcher of record when the run was scored. He got the win.

Not sure if it's an unpopular opinion or not, but I think W/L record for pitchers is one of the stupidest stats in baseball.

How fitting is it that in a extra innings game with zero runs that it ends of a walk?

The last time that happened in a Tigers game was in the 1940s. 0-0 game that ended with a bases loaded walk

Tomorrow will likely be either really good or really, REALLY bad.

Astro's been shut-out 3 straight. I doubt they will lay another egg. It Wil be tough to keep them in check

And here’s that game:

https://www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/DET/DET194808060.shtml

Ted Gray was the winner, Walt Masterson the loser. Both pitched a complete game.

The Tigers drew over 29,000 to Briggs Stadium on a random Friday night in August to see two sub-.500 teams battle it out. That’s post-war and post-Depression exuberance for you.

As with last night’s game, this game featured an outfield assist at the plate, albeit in the sixth inning for this game, and with a bit of a rundown between home and third.

Here’s a “replay” of the game if you’re interested in seeing that kind of thing:

given the shifts in how pitchers are used, my suggestion for a simple system more appropriate to this era would be that if your team wins the game, whatever pitcher got the most outs gets the win. If your team loses, whatever pitchers gave up the most runs gets the loss.

TBH, the idea that a particular run is a 'winning run' or that when it is scored matters has never made any sense in baseball.
