Shinzaki Posted September 18 Posted September 18 Jung has gotten hot at Toledo in September...currently on a .391/471/717/1208 OPS streak...seems like a logical call up for Keith Quote

I would have swapped Morton for Melton a month ago. I would never have traded for Morton. Montero can give you his 4.50 to 5.00 ERA and he has more upside. But...bargain shopping gets them a seat on the couch watching the playoffs on TV. But don't worry, we have prospects in the minors who may help us win a game in 2028 or so. If they even make the majors. Quote

SoCalTiger Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Our problem with Cleveland is they have figured out that left-handed pitching causes us BIG trouble. That's why we went so hard for Bregman and , as much as it hurts, perhaps should have gone the full mile. If Greene doesn't hit we struggle. Period. We were getting real Lotto luck with McKinstry- Baez etc but now it's back down to our core - Greene. FWIW I still believe we will win the Central....and play in the first round... Quote

And, I don't know about what next year looks like after this. Sometimes teams don't recover from epic collapses. The absolute arrogance and stupidity of doing next to nothing at the trade deadline. Like you're so good you don't need to go for it now. After the All Star Break when they were brutal I made a post that was sort of a joke where I wrote "this is going to be really painful" This is very very painful. Sitting still (at the deadline) didn't send a good message and you heard that from the Red Wings last year. The team captain, Dylan Larkin, talked about how let down the team was when they did nothing at the deadline. I think it's kind of the same story here. If this does happen, doesn't someone need to go? I don't know who, but someone? I think someone needs to go if they don't make the playoffs. Leading candidate would be Harris but maybe Hinch or Hinch and Harris. I think Hinch manages the team like its a little league team. It was just stupid to do nothing at the trade deadline when they were already struggling at the time. Everyone knew the pitching rotation and the pen were in big trouble and what little they did do made the team worse. Quote
SoCalTiger Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Nobody is getting fired no matter what happens. I am more sure of that than winning the Central which, agin, I believe we will do. 2 1 Quote
Tiger337 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 Harris and Hinch are both good at their jobs. There is no need to fire anyone. 1 1 Quote
tiger2022 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 The team is toast. Their self esteem is low and if Morton gets crushed like usual today, it's going to be ugly if Cleveland wins. Quote

Hinch was willing to crush Casey Mize's mental state by leaving him completely out of a playoff, he can tell Melton to walk a guy. No manager is going to intentionally walk a guy into scoring position in the late innings of a 1-1 game against a hot division rival. Come on. 1 Quote

tiger2022 Posted September 19 Posted September 19 I didn't hate the Morton pickup, especially as a 5th starter as I thought he would be a guy to give you 5 innings but give up 3 runs and keep you in the game. Not great but the offense would need to know they would have to step up with him on the mound. There weren't a lot of quality starters out there for what the Tigers were willing to pay. Hated the Chris Paddack pickup. I wouldn't have taken him for free. The guy has been one of the worst starters in the league every season since his rookie season. If the Tigers make the playoffs, he won't be on the roster. Im guessing some team will take a chance on him next year or he'll sign a minor league contract, but I think he's will only pitch in a game again when the Tigers are down a whole lot. Quote

Greene doesn't hit lefties, Carps doesn't play period and Perez is mired in a 5-50 slump. Tork has lost some power so there's not much right handed hitting. We missed out big time. We You'll see team load up from now on with lefties, and as they should. Edited September 19 by Klondike Quote

This is essentially the argument I've been making to my son since the trade deadline. The Tigers did nothing to help them win in October. Is Morton marginally better than our other back-of-the-rotation guys? Maybe. But you aren't relying on those guys to win playoff games. We needed someone that was going to move that needle, either on the pitching staff or in the lineup (or both). Instead, we kept it "Skubal and pray" in the rotation, and "Greene, Tork, Carp and pray" in the lineup. Quote

Harris shouldn't be fired. No way. This team is way ahead of where most people expected. I mean, we're contending woth players Al Avila drafted. Wait until the players Harris drafted get here. His trades are very weak and his free agent signings are wasting money but overall, he has us in first place. Some tweaks this winter and we'll be really good next season. And deep down, even with this collapse, this season has been fun. Quote

I think we're really good this season—certainly good enough to be a .556 team overall, even if we're not as good as were were through July 8, or as bad as we've been since August 24. Honestly, I wouldn't expect us to be dramatically better next season than this. Quote
